DrStrangelove: So the Note 2(N7100) has the 11-pin MicroUSB / MHL port?

Yes.

DrStrangelove:Does that lend itself to using MHL _AND_ USB OTG at the same time while the device is powered?

I've seen discussions on this on the S3, but they haven't gone anywhere as there doesn't seem to be an adapter to effectively use the 11-pin port in such a multimedia way.

Cannot be done at the moment to the best of my knowledge. I know Samsung have been reported as saying that it what the 11-pin arrangement allows for, however nobody has got it to work no matter what permutation of cables/hubs etc they tried. I can only presume that if it is indeed possible then it will require yet another adapter.

DrStrangelove:Does the Note-2 have 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi which then means it could also/maybe support MiraCast?
I haven't looked at the spec's cause I'm being too slack. :-)

Yes, has dual band WiFi.

DrStrangelove:I can lie and I'm not a big fan of big phones, but I do appreciate that for some people they prove very functional.

Nice to see someone who appreciates that *their* choice isn't necessarily everyone elses too (seriously tired of people just fixating on their own use, and somehow coming to view anyone elses usage scenarios as invalid).

DrStrangelove:183g is not a light device to be carrying around with you all the time.

True, but then half the time its in your pocket, and when you're using the phone it tends to be two-handed, so I think not as unmanageable as people tend to think. The large surface area of the phone and weight distrubtion create an illusion that it is lighter than the specs sheet suggests too.

Interesting comments re size. Gave the guys at work the choice of S3 or Note, the guy who went Note loves it, despite initial reservations, he was a Palm guy so it was like the second coming :)

Is this something Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners would be looking forward to:

Not if you have to pay GST on it.

Looks like Digi Parallel Imports have it now for $999, leading the rest of the pack (PriceSpy).

Give it 4 weeks, the price should fall under $900.

Just to confirm that everything that I demonstrated in my S3 connectivity demo works with the Note 2 also. Mice, as mentioned earlier, are in fact even better since the button mapping is improved with the right button now mapped to "back" (previously it was mapped to the same as the left button, which was annoying).

Have you seen any sign of the blocky blacks in video playback that plagues some note 1's?

So will the MHL and/or USB-OTG adaptors from my Note not work with the Note 2?

Any whispers from the NZ TelCo's about stocking this beast?

From what I can see, the car dock is the same generic non-charging one as the SGS3 gets :(
With the crazy battery life of the Note2, it may be less of an issue, but screen-on playing audio over bluetooth with GPS active may still eat the battery a fair bit.

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

On the internet, wasting time, since '89.

MHL no, the port has gone from 5 pin to 11 pin (same as SIII), but Samsung and 3rd parties do make a small adaptor so an old cable will work in SIII or Note 2. New cable won't work in old Note either (and I haven't seen an adaptor)

OTG is the same.

I haven't yet had a proper sit down to evaluate video playback, I expect it will have black crush like all the HD AMOLEDs have had, even though the matrix is improved. Blobs are also present in this generation of AMOLEDs, in low light with dark backgrounds I have a couple of very little ones.
