Can this be put in front jeans pocket without walking around looking like you're happy to see everyone?

One of my Vantec portable HDD measures approx 9mm thick by 80mm wide which gave me a rough estimate of how a Note 2 would look in my pocket - massive! It looked even more so when I held it to my ear. Not that I care how it looks but more whether it will feel comfortable or awkward to carry and use. Note 2 is a great device no doubt, but the size may be a killer for me. Though having said that, I do remember when I thought the original 4" Galaxy S was large, yet I still got used to the larger S2, and again with the even larger S3 & One X. Maybe I could do it again with this device? could be pushing it this time.

I'm tossing up between note 2 and s3 to replace mi iPhone 4S. Veering towards note 2 as I wasn't totally impressed with the graininess of the s3 - I know the note has a better display using rgb instead of pentile but is it as good as the iPhone 4S/5? It's the only thing holding me back.

I think better, I don't have a 4/5, but my ipad3 feels slow compared to the note2 and some nice ui touches on the note2 as well, the dial when you put up to your ear is great, but the sensing if your viewing it to keep the screen on is my pick of features, the s-pen has potential but will need more apps is my take.

Compared to my old sii and I think siii, The note2 screen size is more web/book/magazine friendly, but if I was texting/phoning alot I'd go siii, the note2 is just a bit to hard to one hand all the time, though I'm finding I'm adapting.

Better in some ways - size (obviously), resolution, contrast all favour the Note II panel. Pixel density, outdoors visibility, colour accuracy all favour the iPhones.

So, typing this on my wireless USB keyboard and mouse combo, which is plugged into the Note 2, which is sitting in the Samsung Smart Dock (with a powered USB hub connected increasing ports to 5 and allowing 3 different hard drives to be connected at the same time). Bloody cool bit of kit! Played some Tekken 3 with a friend using PS3 and XBoX 360 controllers (wired connections to the dock) earlier in the evening. Epic.

Sadly doesn't work on the S3 on current JB firmware, but I hope that it might be supported later via a firmware update (like how the S3 is getting multi-window support).

Thanks nztechfreak.

[Quote from Charley - 2012]  "I have goose-bumps people..."

I'm getting a Sony Ericsson LiveDock DK10 with a power uplink and a USB port. That's about as good as it gets with Sony. [excluding XPERIA ion dock which can't be sourced]

So the Galaxy Note™ II Smart Dock needs more than just an 11-pin MHL/USB connector.

Be interesting to see, if as one surmises, it's just a firmware update on the S3 away from being able to use the smart dock too.

It seems unnaturally cruel to only support the N7100 and maybe the SG3 with this smart dock and one wonders if future 11-pin Samsung devices will be compatible.

Sorry to go off piste, but one wonders what Sony, HTC or LG are going to offer. If anything.

Is the Galaxy Note II to be the pinnacle of the Android desktop experience.

Lets hope someone is smacking some design engineers about the head somewhere to increase development of multi-function smart docks that go beyond supporting one or two devices,

You're welcome :)

Video review hopefully be up for tomorrow.

I think you raise the real question here - whether it will be forwards compatible. If so its an insta-buy for many, but if not falls a bit flat. Apparently a Swiss site is reporting that Samsung have said a firmware update is coming for the S3 in order to allow it to work with the dock.

The anticipation is killing me, was going to buy an import but will wait a bit now. (soo difficult)
I'm guessing with the Australian samsung event on the 14th (if it is still happening) NZ can't be too far behind, right?

Are there any dis/advantages when buying a 2degrees vs vodafone vs telecom vs unbranded handsets?

I'm wanting to be able to use the phone on any network and telecom sell different models right, so they're out.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated, I don't want to part with a big chunk of cash and end up with a gimped phone full of bloat and not work on the other, I tried looking at the S3 threads etc for similar Q's but I can't find what I'm looking for (lots-o-pages/threads).

So yeah sorry to ask all the things most people might know but I NEED this phone, and the better model too hopefully.

An unbranded Note 2 will work on all networks here, like the S3 does. Mostly downsides to getting a branded one, since it means slower firmware updates (unless you are going to Root it, in which case that becomes irrelevant). If you buy a non-Telecom one and run it on the Telecom network you will likely experience a bit worse battery life, as the modem will be configured to work with fast dormancy, which the Telecom network does not support.

So, now we have an all singing Smart Dock, I have a question.

"Pinch to Zoom"

As you settle into the arm-chair looking resplendent in your embroidered smoking jacket, fez and Manolo Blahnik Turkish carpet slippers, you ponder, how the fluffy duck do I "pinch to zoom" using a keyboard, mouse and Galaxy Note™ II Smart Dock?

I have now been approximately 50metres from the ground in Android Google Earth for months now and don't seem to have any way of panning back into the sky.

The Logitech K400 keyboard doesn't support "pinch to zoom", BUT there does appear to be a Logitech K400R which 'may' have something new as it's supposed to have a closer synergy with Windows 8 touch screens.

Does this translate to Android?

Anybody have a Galaxy Note™ II Smart Dock and a Logitech K400R keyboard? OR know of any keyboard with a "surface" which supports "pinch to zoom".???

Everything is better than iPhone 4S/5, except using on any sunny day. It really test my eyes.
