At work, I elect to provide my own phone (Samsung GS2) but use my employer-provided SIM card in it, working on 029-xxxx. The GS2 takes a standard size SIM.

If I bought a Galaxy Note 2, which takes a micro-SIM, would it be possible to get the employer-provided SIM re-issued by Vodafone as a micro?

I would think so... You could always cut it down to fit - plenty of kits to do it available cheap on Trademe.

A mobile number is not on the SIM to start with mobile number is on network side so all that is required is a SIM swap to a Micro SIM on your mobile number which takes approx 30 seconds

Thanks jr - did not know that. Pardon my continuing ignorance on this - how is the SIM swap actually achieved? Can I do it myself once I have the new device, or do I go to a Voda shop, or does my employer (who owns the contract) have to do it (or be involved) ....?

In store as long as you can ID against the connection IE name the company / Name against the connection is yours
