BigMal:
leaplae: Well I did some calculations on the 8GB nexus 4.

$299 USD for Nexus 4.

$14 USD internal shipping google play store (got the price from the price to ship the nexus 7).

$ 17.25 NZD youshop postage.

$313 USD -> $384.568NZD

382,568 + 17.25 = $401.818 NZD.

A) Pray that us dollar falls

B) Hope that customs misses it

C) get stung $100

Can you guys think of any other way to get these into NZ?

I bought a Galaxy Nexus from the play store and shipping was $10.50. It could be just under $400.  Is internal US shipping calculated in the customs duty?

I would assume so, as it includes international shipping. I am not sure where your figure of 10.50 came up, as it was certainly $14. Oh well I will just have to wait and see.

The $10.50 is how much google charged for shipping a Galaxy Nexus.  It's smaller than a Nexus 7 which is probably why shipping is cheaper.

Assuming you go the youshop route, and have to pay duty, how/when/where is this charged?

I'm going to be ordering on the 13th, so I'll be a guinea pig too.  There's info on the youshop website, but it's not particularly specific.  Might have to suck it and see.

I phoned Customs and asked them what happens.  Apparently they send a letter to the recipient informing them of the amount owing for duty etc.  Once this amount is paid then they release it.  You can pay by credit card.

I will also be buying on the 13th..  Challenge!  Who is the first to orderWink

Kopkiwi: How can this be bought using play store in nz?

You have to use a VPN to buy devices in the play store, along with a mail forwarder with your google wallet credit card set to the billing address of your mail forwarder.  That's how I got my Galaxy Nexus.

Hi BigMal

Could you please post links or details on how to do this. Especially the mail forwarding. Im really keen to buy in U.S play store then send to that New Zealand post shipping from america thing. I could have the 8gb Nexus 4 imported for under $400 meaning I wouldn't have to pay GST or import duties.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Here's what I did.

1. Go to www.shipito.com and register.  You'll be given a US postal address in Oregon.
2. Go to wallet.google.com and sign in with your gmail credentials.  If you haven't already done so add a credit card and use the Oregon address for the credit cards billing address.
3. Download tunnel bear VPN www.tunnelbear.com and turn it on and set it to USA.
4. While the VPN is on go to to the Play store, select shop for devices and buy what you want.  It'll get shipped to your US address and they'll forward it to your NZ address.

It'll be touch and go whether you get it for under $400 NZD as shipping charges getting included when they calculate GST.

After using Tunnel Bear I get a message from Google saying they have blocked a suspicious sign-in attempt to my Google account, how do I set things up so this doesn't happen?

Not site what others ate doing but I am getting the 16 GB. Pay the $106 gst.
Still only cost about $600 for great phone. For me it's not worth sweatingon
If it will come in under the threshold for gst and duty. It will be touch and go
On that

Thanks, will have a look at that method. i am hoping to use the youshop and get the 8gb because frankly I dont need lots of storage. Music, photos, games etc all end up on the tablet (soon to be upgraded to the Nexus 10)
I just want to upgrade my phone which is the original Nexus One and still one of the best phones around but that new screen and JB are just too much to resist Laughing
