Yep, going to be fun learning how to do that "stuff".

I've also go Widget Locker to install too.  Wish someone would come pack for me so I can spend my time how I please - fluffing about with my phone :-D

If you intended to scare me off, you're succeeding. :)

Scripting a la mode! I'll take that as a challenge though. Sealed

(Of course, you may never hear from me again...)

You don't enter it like that though, it just requires logic to work through what you want - don't be put off!

Hey there Cantabrienne,

Fired up maps app tonight, indoors, initially got a fix twenty feet from my actual location in my office in 15 seconds, and I am one contented soul. Beggars the question as to what people's expectations are and how they match with reality, if they expect their cellphone to match a dedicated (expensive) standalone GPS device. I mean, let's be realistic here - it's a bonus FSS.

I recommend that if you need a better GPS, get a dedicated one. The market reeks with them. My feeling is that if a decent GPS is a deal-breaker, then a cellphone ain't the way to get it, regardless of OS or brand. So buying on the basis of a dedicated GPS - basically any dediated brand - maybe a better route.

So having said that (pun unintended), don't rely on the SGS's compass or GPS if you're out in the boonies. A dedicated GPS/Tracker wil trump the SGS any day, and any other 'smart' phone for that matter.)

Or so I'm told.

Cheers,
R2D2

Off to the boonies for me. Taking my Garmin (watch) and a local. Reckon that'll do the job.

Laughing

Enjoy Neets, and make that Garmin work for its keep. Of course, locals might be the biz as well.

I just expect not to have to reset the phone (turning it off and on sometimes) to get the GPS to work.

Is that what happens to you enough to p!ss you off? I haven't had to do anything other than the re-start I did following inputting the new settings.

Look, I don't doubt you're having issues but frankly I wouldn't put up with the dramas you've experienced. I don't understand why you keep it. Want to enlighten us?

I bet if you stuck it on TradeMe in vanilla form, you could get it out of your life, have it make a decent contribution $ wise to your preferred phone, and you'd never have to type a complaining post ever again.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Or am I missing something?

Cheers,
R2D2

PS: Since you haven't responded to the post I made with the GPS settings and such, shall I assume it wasn't interesting enough to acknowledge?

Got a new SGS from Telecom today the XT one and been trying to root the lil bugger but neither of the update.zip files worked, they both crapped out when they should have been applying.

Does anyone know if this is a Telecom special or does anyone have an update.zip that they know worked?

Any advice on the best place to get a Galaxy S here in NZ? I'm after the model that does both vodafone AND Telecom XT.

Thanks.

There is no need to blow a fuse r2d2 ;-P .... Thanks for posting the settings, I checked the settings at around 8pm tonight and they were already the same as what you have posted. have also cleared the gps data. it seemed to be fairly accurate this evening. not sure if this will altered the reboot gps issue. I was gonna wait more than 4 hrs to respond, as I havn't had a chance to see if it has altered the issue.

Bond & Bond or Parallel Imported would be a decent starting point. A mate told me a couple of days ago the some Harvey Norman stores have them from time to time also but I can't guarantee that. As to the VF/XT thing, sorry but I have no idea. But I'll bet some peeps here will know.
