Downsides are only likely to be price, and VF-branding (although I believe its fairly light, and can be easily removed anyways by flashing to another ROM). Bonus is the quality of the warranty support.

EDIT: Desire Z GSMarena review up - definitely a regular LCD display in the DHD, they specifically mention it in the body of the Z review.

On the road using GPS with google maps and it is spot on. It showed us on the T intersection perfectly. I'm impressed. Maybe I'm easily impressed or fortunate my GPS works without a problem.

WallySimmonds: Is there any downside to getting one from NL or dse? I'm assuming they're vf branded...

The Bond & Bond phone I got had no branding. It's an international model with Samsung's TW skin. Given that B&B and NL are the same outfit, I'd say they're the same phones from each chain. But I don't know that for sure.

You'll have to look up and enter the settings for 3G and your chosen network before you can connect. That's fairly easy. Or you could take it to a phone retailer and have them do it for you which is even easier.

Other than that, it's a doddle.

Enjoy your new SGS.

Cheers,
R2D2

You're probably blessed. Karma and all that. :)

Say, what windscreen mount did you get? I'm tired of taping my SGS to the dashboard. (J/K about the tape - I usually just balance it on my left knee... automatic car, so left leg doesn't get much action)

Cheers,

Yeah, DSE have them for 9 hundy, so I think I'll go pick up one today. I was gonna wait for the Desire HD, but it's still pretty pricey and cbf'd waiting a month (possibly longer) for a phone thats *slightly* better.

Tape - funny. Maybe your nickname should be Macgyver.
I bought mine off ebay Australia. It's an official Samsung Galaxy one. Still fits the phone with the case - just. You'd have to wait a week if you want me to find the seller. Hong kong based. Arrived about a week after ordering. For all that, I've not used it ;)

How much was it, if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking $80NZ all up if it also has a charger built in would be reasonable, but I'm useless at guessing prices, so...

Have a great break Neets.

Good Lord, it didn't look that intimidating in the website. Lucky I found it amongst all my shopping (label).

Why 10Q berry march. You went to considerable trouble for a fellow GZ-er and I appreciate it. Now, get back to your break this instant young lady. No more posting until tonight.

oh thanks andrew, i thought it was just no data if using the vodafone version on rural telecom network, but no signal, that would be annoying.

ArtooDetoo:
kiwijunglist: I ran the Performance Test: 404128ms average time. Not sure about the others yet, This is outside with clear night sky above me. Will try the other tests later, I'm installing Navigon currently (see thread in android forum), bed time now.

Yikes. That's not too special. My averages are in the 15000 range indoors in my office, in the 10000 range in the family room (which has much glass). It's starting to look like your phone has a fault. Have you considered a replacement?

I'll try outside in a minute and post the result so you can compare in the morning. Seems like you may have neen wrestling with a dodgy handset though. Dang! Sorry if that's the case.

:-(

Catch ya t'morra...

Cheers,
R2D2

screen has crack, this may void the warranty even though had bad gps performance prior. I had poor wifi reception and data off during the test, will try with data on or stronger wifi but that is a big difference.

Cripes. It's hard to believe they can make 'em for so little dosh, let alone sell them for a profit. So much for my $80 punt then.

Thanks for the links. Time to spend a pittance and do a little anticipatory waiting.
