Wipeout:
DrD: Just update to Kies v1.5.3.10103.102 - it took less than 2 minutes!
Maybe they've added some bandwidth.

Still no official Froyo update though ;-(
Samsung pushed the latest Kies update to eliminate the latest reg hack. I can't believe how useless this company is. They rather spend time on preventing people downloading other countries firmwares than pushing the official firmware quicker to those countries who still have not got it.

I don't see an issue with allowing *all* countries access to the updates at the same time. Surely the telco add-on's aren't providing Samsung a lot of revenue.

And while we're at it where's 2.2.1?
[which has just been released for the N1 - and via an AOT update I might add]

Soon there'll be questions to Samsung on "When is Gingerbread coming to the Galaxy S?"

And what exactly is the Nexus S, will this help speed up firmware update for the Galaxy S? Hmm

I know this is a far stretch/guess, but I can almost guarantee that owners of Galaxy S will never see the official Gingerbread release. Samsung will dump the support for the Galaxy as soon as a newer model being released, like they did with previous hardware.

Okay, one thing I didn't realise with Android - no wifi proxy support?  WTF?  That's a pretty big ommission.

Neets: If you take a copy of the stuffed /efs name it something different so you can tell the difference between the original and the stuffed one, like efs_stuffed or efs_221110

Cheers Neets - I did actually try that early on last night, but it didn't work due to not have r/w permissions. . . . .IIRC you can change this with ROM Manager?

Will take a new titanium/CWM backup first though!

I would've thought that Vodafone not liking my IMEI would prevent me from making calls as well?

I assume you're able to boot your phone.  I love Root Explorer (paid app, pretty cheap).  I can change it to r/w and I think there's some way to do that same using Terminal emulator and adb, but I don't look at those since I can do it no sweat in Root Explorer.

How have you gotten on now?

ArtooDetoo: @Neets...

Are you using noLED? If so, it might explain your notifications issue, as there's an incompatability with Handcent. You could try ticking the "Delay SMS notifications" item, if you're also a noLED user.

Otherwise, my usual disclaimer about knowing SFA about the workings of the SGS applies. Again. Forever, most likely.

Cheers,
R2D2

Hi there.  I presume noLED is an app.  Nope, not using it.  But it did make me go look at my Handcent options and I have Blink LED selected, so the LED flashes (notification) when a new message is received.  Thanks :)

I'm 98% back to where I was apps/data-wise, but still can't receive calls; phone just vibrates briefly, and a Force-Close error pops up & disappears too quickly to read.

I can make calls, and send/receive SMS, 3G Vodafone connection is good as gold etc

Today I've tried:

- Copying /efs back to the phone from my backup on PC
- Flashed the JPP modem
- Set up my number in contacts==>more==>settings==>own numbers so it now appears in settings==>about phone==>status==>phone number

Still nothing. . . . .I still can't quite see how the IMEI has changed to something altogether different, and yet works for all other phone/sms functions??

If I can't resolve, this the final resort will probably have to be a full restore back to JPO, test phone functionality, and then use APN Backup/Titanium to build it back up.

As always, any/all advice gratefully received!!

over 7 million sold, i think they will have 2.3 and then maybe drop it.  Doesn't matter, it's popular enough that firmware from their other phones will be ported to the Galaxy S.  Users who want the latest features will already be running custom xda firmware.

No, it's still the 'new' IMEI - I have read of people having 'no' IMEI after an update, but there's certainly one there alright. . . . . just not mine! :-)

Any idea what the force close could be when someone calls me?

I just can't understand how everything else could be working, yet incoming calls aren't?

Don't flash the Speedmod K9 kernel. I did and it won't boot anymore QQ none of the lagfix options or anything work in CWM either. Trying to flash back to K2R2 and see how that goes.

sometimes there is an error when you flash, If it was me I would considfer.

1. Factory reset + clear data
2. Redownload + Reflash files. I assume your using Doc's rom? Was your phone JPA or JPO prior to flashing?
3. Restore IMEI

I seriously need to stop flashing kernels at work. I tried flashing back to K2R2 but still can't boot even after a restore.

May have to wait till I get home and then flash using Odin and see if that works.

Hey guys! Never thought I'd find such an active Galaxy forum so close to home.
I tried wading through most of this thread but a hundred and forty odd pages is pretty demoralising. So I figured I'd just join in!

I got my phone at the start of the month and played with it night and day, doing my best to get my head around rooting, flashing etc. Managed get Froyo on it (JPO I think) and have forgotten about it mostly since.

Until I realised I wasn't getting 3G data from 2degrees. I'd noticed a couple of times that the 'H' above my data connection would flick to '3G' and back again (we're talking seconds here) but I assumed it was only because I'd bought the 'National Data Packs'. After burning through a couple I splashed out (I'm pretty low on funds after buying the phone) and bought a 1gb 'Mobile Broadband Pack' or whatever it's called, to no avail. I've spotted that the official NZ firmware is out so I'll try that when I get home, but I was wondering if it wasn't just a setting I'd missed. Have tinkered with 'Data Roaming' and the like, no joy so far.

If anyone far wiser has an idea, I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks!
Andrew
