I know this might seem lame, but having come from HTC devices I LOVE the way the HTC Sense worked. I would love a ROM or a list of mods I could use to get closer to that configuration? I found touchwiz workable, but not always intuiative. Also handcent sms annoys me so something alternative to that would be good, and a new dialer if someone can recommend one?

Also what are considered to be the better ROM's now? I am using Doc 7.6.2 but the battery life SUCKS.

Check out the battery thread in Android, especially the posts by Neets. The ROM is specified there and Neets' battery life is really excellent. My SGS's battery life isn't too shabby, and I'm on a vanilla ROM (see my sig). There are a few who are having poor battery results but most seem to be at least reasonable. Obviously usage and expectations have much to do with the perception of "good" or "poor", so YMMV.

One thing's for sure, my SGS's battery life is better than my other half's iPhone 3Gs. If she has data enabled, her phone won't make it through the day but my phone will. However, I now only have data enabled if I need to allow my emails to be pushed. Otherwise, WiFi is a better option for me.

Cheers,

Can anyone recommend a good place to get another screen protector/case?  I've already scratched the back of mine slightly (goodness knows how) and the protector film I recieved with the phone was not placed on that well and has a few air bubbles so want to get another 1 or two and reapply.

I don't know why anyone would need a screen protector for a gorrilla glass phone. Do you carry it in the same pocket you hold your razor blades or something? :P

As for the case, I love my Barely There from Case Mate but I'm not sure if you can buy them here.
It also came with a complimentary screen protector if you must insist on using one.

I bought a Gizmobie and shoved that on mine, I did not worry about the front screen protector since all it does is add bulk to it (plus makes it annoying to use the On Screen Keyboard) but the back adds grip to the phone + looks quite cool. These cost $35 at the moment from Northlands Mall in Christchurch (There will be other malls) - you don't need to worry about the front too much since it's gorilla glass, which is almost unbreakable / unscrachable.

i found the gorrilla glass did accumulate light scratches, and it wasn't in the same pocket as razor blades, keys or coins ;-P so if you are anal then yes, a screen protector is not necessarily a waste.

I'm a bit careless with my phone and tend to keep it with my keys in my pocket. I've not noticed any scratches on the glass yet though... if they are there they are not easily seen.

And I finally solved the mystery of why Handcent didn't play my notification sound.  It only does it if you use the status notification too.  Bit stupid really, but there you go.

Until recently I had a black soft silicon gel type case on my SGS. I now have one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-x-Hard-Rubber-Case-Cover-Samsung-I9000-Galaxy-S-/320625661042

and I think its great. It's very slim, it shows the silver/chrome band that frames the screen (which the gel case completely covered up) and it's got a great rubberised non-slip feel. It's got a hard substrate - don't know what it is  - and it clips onto the phone.

It cost me less than NZD5 including freight - but did take three or four weeks to get here from Hong Kong.

After nearly two weeks, my phone hasn't even left the Harvey Norman store in Henderson. I am so pissed off.

What's more frustrating is that I have to call them to follow up on what is going on. If one of my clients had to chase me for something, I would not have a job.

Brad, the manager, has spoken with Samsung NZ about my issue (3 button recovery mode) on Friday. They will be looking at why some phones come through with this function, why others don't. In the mean time my external card problem issue has not been fixed.

I am so sick of both Samsung and Harvey Norman. I pretty much want the refund for the phone and never deal with either company, ever again. What a bunch of useless cretins.
