lokhor: I'm confused. did it work?

Yup.

And it's the smoothest, slickest, most tactile lagosity-free fun you'll have with your clothes on.

Woohoo.

Of course, having to re-install all my apps wil be a major pain. Except, they're all still there. What the heck's that about? Flashing, by popular wisdom, vaporises them, yet they're all where they're supposed to be. Strange. And not only that, even the home screen icons are still there.

Amazing.

I'll have to go and have a cup of tea and a lie down.

Wow. Just WOW!

Cheers,
R2D2

With or without your phone (i.e with or without your clothes on)  -  mwahahahaha

Glad it's all sorted.  Did you root the phone?  Which method did you use in the end?

And what would you say of your experience using Odin.  Little hiccup but it sounds like it all came out in the wash - eventually.

Lol not all firmware upgrades wipe it. if you have issues you may have to perform a factory reset though and clearing the dalvik cache is recommended for the best speed.

Hmmmm. . . it would seem my Official Froyo has removed the ability to do either of the 3-button recoveries.

Either that, or I've lost the knack for getting it working.

Not happy.

Ok, I spoke in haste Embarassed. . . . .but it's definitely more fiddly to get into - have to hold all three down, release power, re-press power, wiggle big toe on right foot, think of cute, fluffy kittens, and bite your lip on the left side.

At least that worked for me just now. . . . YMMV

Well that's just rude!  The PDF that's on the Doc thread has instructions on how to re-enable it again (via Odin).

Yeah nofam, I've seen reports on both XDA and Whirlpool where people states that their 3 button combo was gone after the official update. I'm sure tho that someone on XDA will be on it by now. You should have a looksie and see if there is a fix for it.

Got Clockwork Recovery through the Voodoo Kernal Here which does not replace the kernal on the phone, got root and initial unlocked bootloader from Here - Running XXJPU Doc Mod which is working very quick.

You can avoid flashing the CF-Root kernal if you chose to flash the Voodoo Kernal via Heimdall (Opensource Alternative to ODEN) which also runs on Linux / OSX.

Happy modding guys!

Filthy beast. I'm telling your hubby about this disturbing online smut.

No I didn't root the pho... Oh right. I see what you mean. Yes, I did the SuperOneClick trick, which while quick, wasn't all that slick. So phone rooted, but no 2e CWM restore. I'll find a way to do that though as I need the comfort blanket if I continue to root stuff and go around flashing regularly. (Hope my mum doesn't read this stuff. She would be shocked, shocked, I tell you.)

I made the mistake of not finding the latest version of Odin, and I have learned from that. And yet another mistake in not reading enough about using it. In fact, the XDA forum was all "debug off, no on, no off, no on, no on and off but not off and on" and it all had to be done in 4.38 microseconds or somesuch. I think if I'd gone to the last page of several thousand, it would've been easier, but in truth, reading every page would have been better. Me read all that? Er... nope.

So, Odin 1, R2 0.

:-)

Just with the /system EXT2 lagfix, does indeed improve it a bit more, it comes with the Voodoo Kernal.

Nice to know that. A lot of my apps think they're running for the first time, though, which suggests my data has gone to some extent, but my SMSs and emails are all there. And my contacts, so it seems somewhat arbitrary.

You really should do this mod. The phone has shown me a slickness that I had never experienced, or dreamed of. Exaggerating? No. It's just so 'sensory' that it seems unlikely. Lagfix, schmagfix. This is how touchphones should be. If there's a better experience out there, then I want it, but this? This is frankly the mutt's nuts.

Cheers,
R2D2

If you have the I9000 version of the phone (Not the Telecom Version) give it a go, it will bring more power to your phone.
