Yaaaayyyyy...

You keeping an eye on me?  Hadn't noticed.  Well it's taken 3 months to get to (almost) half way.  So by the end of the financial year I *might* have posted enough to shunt me up the list.  But I wouldn't go as far as to say that proves any recognisable skill other than the ability to yabber ;-)

I must be your first cyber-stalker then. Cool Crikey...

And I do believe you made a passing reference to hokey pokey? Seems to be the old pot and kettle contest again.

Oh I think you're being a little hard on yourself skill-wise. In you I detect the the heart of a true geek. Your apparent fascination for solving tech issues is a clue. This being especially true, given your gender.

So yes, you are an uber geek, formal acquisition of the title notwithstanding. Wink

And there are more than a couple of us who are chuffed you have the skills you seemingly deny.

But I best not go on or there'll be cries of "Get a room" and such.

So you had a formal touch-typing background. That's interesting Neets.

Cheers,
R2D2

Update: So far I nearly threw my phone against the wall few times. I've downloaded the SDK files, added ADB to tools folder. However, my laptop is not installing drivers for the phone with USB debuging mode on. It did when I tried first time, now nothing happens... :( Any suggestions?

lol! Awww.. thanks, it made me smile! :>

No, actually I'm trying to get my 3 button combo enabled. For that I needed SDK files + ADB. I'm following the guide Neets gave me.

But it mentioned that I need to go into download mode via ADB method. Started to look up what ADB was, how it works etc. I had no SDK files either, so downloaded those, added ADB to the tools folder, as per instructions here: http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/

Once that was all done, I had to check if everything is set up correctly (Basically step 1 of those instructions). But once I put my phone into debugging mode on and plugged it into laptop, it no longer loads drivers, like instructions suggested. However, it did before, when I was marking around with it, before I've installed SDK and ADB.

Now I'm stuck and can not run any commands in cmd because my phone is not being recognized by a laptop.

Are you able to connect via Kies? ADB worked fine for me using just the drivers that Kies installs.

I can connect to Kies fine, yes.

But the method specifically mentions killing all the Kies before attempting and use Odin to fix the 3 button combo... Besides, I can't go into usb debugging mode and connect to the Kies at the same time, or can I? Am I confused about something?

Urgh, I give up for tonight and need to start fresh tomorrow. I never worked with command lines/linux before, so finding it a little challenging. I can't seem to get to the folder where adb is located. I have no idea why or how... The path I'm typing in seems correct. I should have just gotten one of my mates over who works with linux on the daily basis.

I wouldn't mind betting it's something as simple as a <space> where there should or shouldn't be one; Linux is very unforgiving syntactically when it comes to commands with arguments. . . .

if phone can connect with kies then you already have enough drivers installed to use chainfire method of getting the 3 button combo. just close kies + kies tray agent prior to doing the chain fire installation.

Can you kind folks please advise whether SuperOneClick is a viable option to root my Official (henceforth known as Fish Offal, due to it's stinking lag. . .) JP3?

I've given up on getting z4root to work (hangs, crashes the phone pretty much), so if I can't find a way to get root access so I can apply unsigned zips and get backups working again, I'm heading back away from the light towards Doc's dingy diner and his greasy fried-up ROMs.

Yes. Be prepared for the debug on, debug off dance, but it gets there in the end. However, there are 'proper' root routes to go down which give you CWM 2e and stuff which seems like a better way to go. Having said that but, I used SOC root and all is going swimmingly following a shaky start. Sorry to hear you have lag back again. I can recommend RyanZA's OCLF. I can't recommend Voodoo. I think it killed my wifi.

Others are diametrically opposed to my thinking on this, so feel free to ignore my advice, I would.  Laughing

Cheers,
