fahrenheit: Darkyy has just uploaded v5.4 of his custom rom.

I didn't even realise there was a v5.3....

And Doc has released v4 of his JPU ROM. Hmm... what to do, what to do :-)

Currently on Darkyy 5.2, but had a couple of versions of Doc's ROMs before that...

Whatever you decide, let us know. . . . . I feel I may be coming down with a case of flash fever over the weekend!!!!

you can hold out that long?  I admire your stamina!

Stamina is tempered by strong recollections of the bottom-puckering feeling I had after losing my IMEI.  Have certainly learned a lot since then, but I still haven't dabbled with Odin at all, and I like to have a solid escape plan. . . . .Doing renovations at home at the moment, and not having a working phone is rather testing when builders/tilers/plumbers etc are trying to call you.

And same goes fro you Miss N - blow-by-blow account of your Darky vs Doc decision si'l vous plait.

Life is mostly froth and bubble, two things stand like stone - kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own.

Gosh, I'm impressed you know their ages.
I saw what happened right at the beginning with Darkyy apparently flogging Docs rom as his own which I thought (if true - appears to be) a bit on the nose.

Does Darkyy have people beta testing like Doc does?  Being employed by a software company I value beta programmes and like to believe what ends up released is as good as it can be (with the included functionality).  I'm such an idealist ;-)

I wasn't there in the beginning to see any skullduggery other than the willy-waving that has transpired since JPU arrived on the scene.

I don't think Darkyy beta tests no. His test and release method at the moment seems to be to try the rom as he is uploading it to the host server. Which of course means that by the time a bug is found, its already in the wild. I don't think I'll touch 5.4 till late this evening or tomorrow at the earliest.

Hey all,

Can someone please give me low down on the VF I9000s vs. parallel imported units?

I've bough the i9000 while it was on sale at DSE, so just trying to figure out if I should cancel my order before it gets delivered. Things I'd really like to know:
1)Froyo update
2)3 button recovery
3) any VF ware which can't be removed
4) origin of VS i9000s?
5) anything else important

Thanks :)

1. Not out yet in NZ.
2. Luck of the draw, doesn't matter where you buy it.
3. None
4. All made in Korea
5. Warranty?

I would choose DSE version over one purchased from overseas due to local warranty and DSE will be much easier to deal with compared to overseas retailer or cut price online retailer.

Yes, although I got a two year warranty from overseas, and I think the local one is only one year?

Thanks! So just the Froyo update then.

Would I be correct in assuming it's just a matter of time before VF models get Froyo, since it's out almost everywhere else by now. If that's the case any predictions on how long it would take?

probably, although consumers guarantees act might cover you for more than 1 year.

A few pages back I think it was Wipeout that spoke with Samsung NZ and they're claiming the version is still in testing and because of unique regional stuff it's not yet ready like it is in other countries.  They didn't have a date as best I remember.

Well based on what I know right now, I'd to Doc's rom hands down becuase I've been following his thread (except the last 2 days) and seen the process of his betas and know he's got a number of well respected contributors to his thread.  I also think he's got a better support mechanism in place for those with questions.

The support of his ROM seems pretty robust to me.

Sounds to me like Darkyy is just putting his rom out willy nilly and not too concerned about quality.  And despite all the Dev being free to us I still think it's a little risky to fire something out knowing in your heart that it's likely to be flawed.

I've also been on Doc's roms before so I clearly have a preference.  I've not been disappointed before and I don't expect to be again (except when the roms aren't being released because his clear favourite will be his current (Nexus) phone).

So call me naive, but I'll probably just go with Docs latest rom without even doing any real research of Darkyy's rom.  I guess too I'm swayed by the lack of maturity I've seen displayed by Darkyy.  Perhaps it's unfair I'm not giving him a shot, but when you're looking for a point of difference, I can't overlook this.  Now I'm seeming to be hard to please.

In your guys experienced opinion is Froyo all it's cracked up to be? And is it something that I should think about long and hard before getting a VF model?

From what I understand Froyo was supposed to fix two major things lag and GPS, did it? I know that Skype now works but that's not a biggie for me?

The original Froyo version didn't go far enough to fix those two areas.  The latest leaked Froyo version 2.2.1 (JPU) appears to have fixed the lag - but it's only been released about a week now so there's been minimal time to determine if the apparent lack of lag is sticking around.  Lag seems to sneak in.  I never had a problem with GPS, but from what I've read people are saying there's improvements to GPS too.

Wipeout: Brendan, thank you. :>

Right, so ADB test went well, and under command prompt I got this back:

List of devices attached

9000b2badd3b device

So that means ADB is working properly now! Yay! :D

Now I need to figure out how to go into download mode in ADB. As per Neets' suggested link(bottom of the page instructions) http://nfye.com/toolkit/Doc-Froyo.pdf

What does he mean "download mode (ADB method)"? I need to run a command in command line, correct? But what command?

Edit: found it - adb reboot download. Is this right? That should put my phone into download mode, then I can run the bootloader fix as per above instructions in Odin. Just checking with you guys if this is correct. hahaha... while absolutely sh*ting myself. :P

Great to hear you now have adb working! Been busy at work so only now just catching up on the replies. Heard the various email notifications throughout the day so knew the thread was busy :D
