That wasn't quite plain sailing. Somehow I lost my ability to get into recovery mode. I still had download mode. Very odd. I was sitting on JM8 and unable to get to recovery. I've done this process before. The only variable was using the Odin3 v1.7. I had to think for a minute just how I was going to get to recovery since I couldn't root the phone using the ChainFire method. I still had the full JPM version so I flashed that. Flashed CF Root, and was able to get into recovery mode. Next I applied the update.zip to get CWM. Then flashed Doc's JPX v6.1. I got FC errors on the start up wizard but it righted itself. Now I'm restoring my apps with TB and I'm sure all will be right again. IMEI in tact, About Phone reporting I'm on the correct rom so just a bit of tweaking of homescreens etc and I'll be away laughing. michaelmurfy: Neets: Right O, phone is fully charged. I'm finally getting to change rom to JPY. Been such a busy weekend and week so far that I've just been too tired to concentrate enough for this. First time using Odin3 v1.7. I'll report back when it's all up and running. Darky's v5.6 still produces some weird errors for me on my lock screen. I am running Darky's 6.0 and it's flippin' fast - I have it available at http://work.murfy.co.nz/sgs if you want to speedily fetch it from there and give it a go. I found v5.6 very fast, almost too fast. Flashing Doc's v6.1 on start up it had the Voodoo girl/robot voice so I guess it's lag fixed now (as happened with Darky's v5.6). Question for the more experienced users here. I was checking to see if my phone could get into Recovery Mode and Download Mode. Can get into recovery mode, rebooted the phone. Tried getting into Download mode, successful, simple question, how do i get out of the Download Mode, just switch off the phone? Thanks

Thanks Yes, that got me when I first bought the phone - just hold down the power button - it should reboot in 10 seconds or so. Life is mostly froth and bubble, two things stand like stone - kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own. Works with SGS I/II/III. I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

Wipeout: Neets, has your recovery came back after installing CWM? Yeah it has. Though I'm not sure if I could confidently say it was becuase of rooting the phone with ChainFire root. I tried 3 times and I couldn't get into recovery. So d/l mode to get JPM so I could get ChainFire Root and then the next time I tried recovery it was back. Now I can't get TB to restore LauncherPro :( My phone does not look like mine. Boo! I'll fix it tomorrow. Too tired now. I'm trying to use instruction on how to get my 3 button combo enabled again on XDA using Heimdall, which is apparently the safest. I have lots of questions, which when I started asking on XDA was told not to do it because I need to do more reading. hahahaha... I say after Christmas, because I have a full on rest of the week and obviously the weekend, so wont have time to do anything, even if you did help me. :> Here are the instructions that I supposed to follow. I will flick you a msg next week with questions I have, if you don't mind of course: 01. Unplug the phone from the computer (if connected) 02. Kill all Kies related software (tray agent, etc) 03. Start Heimdall Downloader 04. Plug in the phone to the computer 05. Download adbDownload.zip 06. Unpack adbDownload.zip and run/double click on Download.bat 07. Download RAZ_P-SBL_SGS.tar 08. Unpack RAZ_P-SBL_SGS.tar 09. Move to Heimdall (GUI) and select boot.bin and SBL.bin. 10. For me however this is a different world. hahaha... Edit, I can get into download mode using ADB method. I can also get the front-end running fine. For me however this is a different world. hahaha... Ah yes, to be honest I don't know the method with Windows, always do it in the terminal in Linux. It's really quite easy to do, read the help file - it contains everything you need to know. There's not really any risk of bricking it, but since you are a Windows user I would suggest you just go with the Oden Method. It's pretty hard to brick these phones fully, but ofc without the download mode working it's risky. I remember the beginning of this year flashing a Radio to my old HTC Magic, now if this doesn't go through you will brick the magic and once that happens, it's a vibrating paperweight. I spent a day reading up on it, downloaded the files required and just went for it (even though, I risked breaking my working phone) - Started flashing and I swear my heart stopped, was like "Oh crap, what have I done" - but it went through fine, and flashed many radios after that without a single brick. If you do your research on this it's real easy to do, your heart might stop but Heimdall won't really let you do anything stupid (flash a invalid modem for example) as it's pretty well written. Follow the directions online and just take the plunge. There is a small chance of it bricking your phone but take it in to Vodafone, say a KIES update failed and it's sorted >.> But in the reality, you will not experience a brick no matter what method you use. Just remember, you are at risk of bricking your phone every time you flash anything to it. If the phone runs out of battery or fails during the bootloader or modem flash then that's it, it's a paperweight. And all Roms include these too. Unless if you are VERY lucky with being able to get it back into Download Mode.
