Forgotten: So have JPU up and running now, going to flash Docs V4.0 (his final based on JPU) before I insert the SIM and see if I get network connectivity.

Ugh, still not working, I'm getting two bars of signal to Vodafone but none to Telecom...

Have to head into work in a couple of hours and we have a cellsite on top of the building so might try then. Guess I'll load everything onto my laptop so I can continue from work, will give me something to do tonight I guess.

Mmmm, I'm out of ideas.  Is it an XT version?  I'm wondering if you've lost the bands or something like that.

Yea it's an XT version, did notice in SGS tools when I had a look at the bands WCDMA850 was disabled to start with, though I've enabled it now so it should be working - and it's not.

I did a search in Doc's thread for 850.  This post might offer some guidance to the next step.

Seems you might be better off with the JK3 modem.  The first post I gave ^^ above, also had a link to where you can download the other modems.  I don't know if JK3 is in that list though.  Didn't look specifically.

The default I9000 baseband is 900/2100. I know Doc's kernel is i9000 and his built in modems are usually 900/2100 to match the hardware. Does his Roms include the modem as well?

You could try the JK3 or JK4 or JL3 modems which are WCDMA850 default. Us Captivate users are able to use these 850 modems via an I9000 kernel.

Im sure this is the reason you dont have connectivity. All custom ROMs can allow WCDMA850 to be "selected" however if the model/kernel doesnt match the hardware, it wont work regardless.

As always, flash at your own risk :-)

Edit: Thanks Neets, you got in before me, Yeps try JK3. JK4 and JL3 are also available for default 850 3G/WCDMA

As I recall, Doc started a thread for Captivate users.  XDA search is unavailable (to me at least) for 10 minutes.  But you could look for all posts by Doc and hopefully you'll spot the Captivate one.

I say Captivate becuase it seemed to be for Bell/Canadian users who have the same (or some of) bands as XT

Wouldn't happen to know where these can be d/l'd from? Xda search is broken at the moment. The modems page in Doc's thread doesn't have them either. XT uses WCDMA850 everywhere other than in main cities, so it would make sense that I'm not getting any signal.

Yeps Neets, I often nosey that thread. Doc has a reoriented I9000 kernel for the Captivate users, however because forgotten has a Telecom I9000, he still has to stay kinda within the generic I9000 thread. It means we can use the I9000 modems via a modified I9000 kernel. The Captivate thread isnt actually the best for forgotten as Doc has ported a lot of the I9000 goodies for the Captivaters (feel the love!)

Wow, Im surprised the I9000 forum doesnt have a dedicated modem thread! Then again, the same modems will work for all euro/asian I9000s so thats probably why.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835272

Thats the modem thread in the Captivate forum. Scroll down to the second post and youll see JL3, JK3 and JK4 are in the OP.

These are flashable via clockwork recovery. Power off, enter recovery via 3BR and then go to install zip from card (root of internal sd) and then select update.jl3.zip. Let it install, go back, reboot, when recovery starts again, it'll say config files differ? backup and let it backup and then it'll reboot into Android.. and fingers crossed you have a connection!

If someone else can concur with my reasoning, please advise!

Edit.. too slow again haha! okay keen to hear the result forgotten :-)

Many thanks Neets and Damager :) glad that's over.

Will put everything on my laptop tonight to flash XXJPY with the JK4 modem.

So the modems work with all firmware versions? Or no? If I was on 2.1 for example could I flash the JK4 modem and it'd work?

Nice one Neets! and hoped my 2 cents was worth something too. Always nice to get someone out of a jam aye!

I know JK4 and JL3 are definitely only for 2.2 I believe JK3 is as well. Have another look at that thread i posted it indicates which of  2.1 and 2.2 the modems can align with.
