So another query, does anyone know where to get different ear buds (the rubber bits) for the headphones that come with the phone? The ones that come with the phone are too big and fall out of my ears :(

Oh and cases - where to get cases from? I got one from the Telecom store that I haven't used because it's too large, want just a backing for the phone, like you get with iPhones. Either rubber or a hard back, not sure.

This is the type I've got.  Others will likely reply.  People seem to get similar, but from different places.

As for the headphones. I've got the same problem.  I have some Sony ear bud ones that came with 3 different sizes and I'm using the smallest size.  If it weren't for the over ear hooks they'd still fall out.  I haven't bothered with the ones that came with the phone.

Because there's nothing to flash on Doc's thread at the moment (but it's coming) I've just installed the Beta Swype app.  I'd signed up to the beta programme just before Christmas but had been unsuccessful in getting the swype application installed.  I was trying to d/l it over 3G data rather than Wifi.  Anyway one of the peeps on the Doc thread gave me a few pointers about getting the stock swype uninstalled and looking for left over files, and then clearing dalvik cache (via TB - which I'd done in the past).  And this time it's installed the swype app.  Unfortunately it's English US.  It's just a little different for the UI, a bit of colour in there, but so far works just the same as the previous swype.  I'm not even sure any more what's changed.  Must go back and read up :)

I tried installing the beta Swype when I realised Doc's XXJPY ROM didn't have it preinstalled. Kept getting force closes during the installation though. :(

Peeps, Darky's vs Doc's rom. What's preferred, less buggy, more stable etc?

It's impossible to keep up with those two threads on the XDA! hahahaha...

I'm using aftermarket Shure ear ins. Best ear ins I've ever had. Tried my bulky Technics too, but way too heavy. Although quality of sound is pretty good with those.

I bought a cover from vinnieg, who posts on here. It's a black silicon case, very nice. I also slapped a Gellaskin (http://www.gelaskins.com/store/skins/phones/Galaxy_S_Vibrant_Intl) over it for more stylish finish. :>

I've tried only v6 of Darky's rom and many of Doc's roms.  My preference is Docs.  I notice a good number of people ask questions in Darky's thread but the questions go unanswered.

Doc's thread has a good (active) group of "helpers" who test beta versions, and provide answer to questions, even those that ought not to be asked in the thread becuase they're unrelated to the ROM.

Doc's hinting of a new ROM this week.  He's working with another person at the moment.  They've made a site where you can pick and choose which apps you want and it automatically creates an update.zip for you with those included.  Pretty slick.  This will make it really easy for people to fully customise the ROM to their own liking.

Sounds awesome! Yeah, I saw that another update is due sometimes this week from Doc. I might wait.

A couple more technical questions. Nandroid in CWR mode is for backing up Roms, right? So I can back up my current Rom for both safety net, plus warranty. If so, where does this Rom gets backed up to? Internal/external storage on the phone, or could I just move it onto my laptop?

Titanium is used for backing up apps, correct? But if I do a clean install of the custom rom, how do I run a Titanium back up if it's no longer there? Or does it gets stored on the internal memory or something?

Doc's Roms from what I've seen is a single file. Does this mean I don't have to worry about the Phone and CSC fields in the Odin and just use PDA? The other thing when flashing, do I need to worry about bootloader updates, or should I just leave it unticked.

I might also investigate how to flash with Heimdall, as I really enjoyed the experience first time around. Besides the drivers are already installed, so should be piece of cake. :>

The Game.

I have found the best ones in Northlands Mall here in Christchurch, they are called Gizmobies and are just a simple adhesive rubber skin that fits to the front / back of your phone. They are $35 here, work well to add grip / protection.

As for Air Buds, just buy new earphones alltogether, Sennheiser make great ones.

@wipeout Docs roms are flashed using CWM which you access from recovery. Rom manager is what I use to take a backup of my phone. The backups are stored on your internal memory in a folder called clockwork/backup.

Titanium backup it's for restoring your apps. Put a copy of the .apk file in your internal/external so you can install our just grab it from the market again.

What's a bet Michael has already replied.

Swyped this reply.

Heh, he hasn't yet. :P

Nice, so it's just running an update.zip file from CWM recovery mode? That's convenient! I have the Rom manager also, as well as Root Explorer.

I might do this tomorrow, cause it sounds way too easy. lol

Edit: Actually I wont do it tomorrow. I'll just wait for his latest release, which like you've mentioned shouldn't be too far away. :>

cwm also has a backup/restore option. I've been using this because Rom manager crashed on me. I think there was a glitch with 2.2.1. It may have been fixed now.

You will need Odin/Heimdall to flash CF root to enable you to get 2e recovery which it's needed to install update.zip which in Docs case installs the CWM recovery.

Already have a CF root. So this means I just need the update.zip file from Doc's thread with the latest firmware, go into recovery and run the update.zip?

anonomeez has written a guide which is referenced in the first couple of posts and her XDA signature. Yes HER! She's been active in the thread tonight so you'll easily find it. She is updating it because some people choose to upgrade from a different official Rom version.
