lokhor: @Neets what kernel are you using these days? I'm using Hardcore's K12H 500hz and was wondering if an OC/UV voltage was worth trying. I haven't tried out a rom from the new romkitchen, might wait till themes become available.

Still the same one in my signature. There's a .3 one out now (I understand mine is .2) and with .3 the OC/UV has gone.

I'd just deleted the cwm file from my /sdcard too.  But I'm sure you can find the .2 version somewhere in XDA if you wanted to try the OC/UV.  Again, Tricky's guide probably has details on which kernel's you can OC/UV.

Damager: I've found a dark wallpaper really does make a significant difference in battery life. Any one else agree? Only started doing this in the last few days.

Also.. does anyone think the usb connection on the phone is a bit flimsy? I like the solidity of a mini usb connection.. That's just me anyway..

I've never had a light wallpaper yet so don't know what it does to battery life.  I find the browser too glarey so I can't imagine a lighter wallpaper.

I don't have a problem with the USB connection.  But then I'm not sure I understand what you mean as you go on to talk about the mini USB.  I thought there was only one USB connection but your description makes it sound like there's two.  Am I missing out on something, or just being ditzy?

Well maybe there's some placebo subconscious effect happening re the dark wallpaper lol  The same time i changed to a very dark wallpaper, I also installed a percentage battery mod. So the wallpaper and the battery mod together = a perceived longer battery life.

By the time i went to bed around 2am, i still had 38% battery. The phone usually comes off the charger around 8am and I consider my usual usage around the medium to heavy realm.

Right, I better check the stats to make sure Im not dreaming.. again hehe!

Re Mini USB. I've had HTC smartphones for the last 3 to 4 years and they use the Mini USB type of connection. This is very common among many makes of phone and smart phones, motorola, also all of the htc incarnations eg ipaqs, digitial camcorders also have them.. So if I ever lost the usb cable, then another was usually very readily available either at home or work. They just feel much more solid and reassuring when plugged in. The Galaxy s connector is a proprietary one I think? I havent seen it on other makes of phone I think.

I might just stick to the Hardcore kernel, it has the best image quality and battery life. I tried Supercurio's Voodoo and text looked awful (over-sharpened).

Nah, it's not proprietary - its micro-USB. But I do whole-heartedly agree that the mini-USB connector in other (older) phones feels much less fragile.

Unfortunately micro-USB is now a requirement (http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/29/european-standardization-bodies-formalize-micro-usb-cellphone-ch/) - at least in Europe

I was being a ditz.  I thought you meant on the same phone.  I thought your Captivate must have some secret compartment and you were able to switch from USB to micro USB ;-)

@Damager what modem are you using currently? Have been using JK4 for a while now but have noticed the call quality isn't the best so looking to change.

Also does anyone know if Titanium Backup will backup the downloaded map tiles for Navigon?

Shrapnel: Hey there, Sorry to butt into this thread, but I've been trying to update My Telecom SGS to 2.2 from 2.1. I've tried the patch solution set to TNZ which I know other have had success with but it did not make a difference(had false success when I didn't change the patcher to my phone version hence updating my phone with the same firmware it had) . My current firmware version is JL1. If anyone has any ideas on getting this phone to update it would be great, I don't want to root or flash anything though :), just officially update it. I have been using the?latest version of Kies.

I had used the Kies Reg Patch and it had worked for me but to be honest have heard from other people it is not working anymore. Sorry If the Reg patch has not worked, don't know what will work. Also there was some kind of?maintainance release from Telecom sometime back not sure if that can do some help. Also a bit cofused why you have JL1, if I remember correctly mine was JP1 before the Froyo upgrade...

All the best & Happy New Year to all!!!

Hey ali, do you remember exactly what you did? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, and what do you mean by "maintenance release", firmware update? Thanks

First?do not connect ur mobile to ur computer and do not open Kies?- THEN

Look for "regedit" under run and open Registry editor

Then Under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Samsung \ kies \ DeviceDB if you see any folders which are numbers (i.e. i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. and so on) delete all off them?

After that Open Kies and connect ur samsung phone, and when ur phone is found, disconnect the phone and close the program & unplug the phone.?

Run the exe 1.6 reg patcher,?u can downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628

Set the patch to True and the Spoof code to TNZ it should auto fill other option automatically?and click write Registry?
Then connect ur phone to Kies and click firmware update/upgrade, and it should show u something as below:

Model Name: GT-I9000T
Current Version: PDA:JJ1 / PHONE:JI1 / CSC:JI1
Latest Version : PDA:JP2 / PHONE:JP1 / CSC:JP2

?

U Check this link also... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=851043&page=1

I taught Telecom did relase a maintaince release but maybe you are not getting it since u r on JL1... not sure how u mange to get that frimware as it was JI1... confused... but all the best and let me know how it goes... HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU>>

Thanks ali for the guide, I'm away from my comp now so I can't try it yet. A couple of things I did differently was that I used the 1.7 patcher and I didn't delete those reg entries. Ive just noticed that my gps stopped working too, not sure why though, it was working but my phone has been up dated twice since

http://androidspin.com/2010/08/04/fix-the-gps-on-your-samsung-galaxy-s-based-phone-vibrant-captivate/ used that guide to fix it, it took about 20 seconds to lock on but was accurate

Been using JL3 for the last 2 to 3 weeks and seems to be fine with no problems re call clarity.

Just a thought now, the Captivate hardware is going to be different to the Galaxy S. Are there any Telecom Galaxy S users on JK4 or JL3?

Haven't used Titanium Backup, I have used Navigon Fresh to backup downloaded maps.
