I've not encountered that problem.  What version of LauncherPro are you using?  Mine is set to 5 homescreens and the default screen is 3 and I've never had a problem with those settings sticking. My version is 0.8.2

Whatever the newest one on the market is, so im guessing .8.2. It's really strange, I've done a few re-installs and nothing is changing, just defaults to 3 home screens everytime.

A shame because it seems like a great little program. Perhaps it doesn't agree with JPU?

More research: No settings that require an app restart are remembered.  All other ones remember fine.

I've just changed the number of screens from 5 to 7.  It restarted, I checked, it had saved.  I then went from 7 back to 5.  It restarted and I checked, it saved the change.

Maybe you need to clear the cache:
Menu | Settings | Applications | Manage Applications - select Launcher Pro from the list.  Click Clear cache.  Not sure what Clear data would do, possible revert to defaults so in your case it might be ok to do since it's not saving what you want.

Is anyone using Go Launcher on their Galaxy S? I really like it except there are no included widgets

I would switch Launchers if I had a replacement widget for the LauncherPro Friends widget

Yus! Work-around city. Found out that XDA "make" replacement Touchwiz launchers. Basically a port of the Tab I think. So now I have the exact same looking launcher with landscape. Excellent, exactly what I wanted!

And in unrelated news I also have a zebra widget as my battery indicator.  So.  Cool.

The new Kitchen web app by Docrambone...

Like many, i was intrigued by this new development - and to be sure, it's quite a nice thing to have. I've tried about 3 ROMs constructed from the web kitchen, and all have worked just fine.

The latest was a pretty standard, 'slim' type rom, only having those apps I actually use, and with laststufo's kernel. (previously I had used the then latest speedmod kernel). I was primarily interested in it's under volting to save battery - not so worried about the overclocking.

Over all, I thought it is a great innovation and a work in progress.

But, you know what? Darky's rom v8 is better - especially with the speedmod k12 kernel. It's both fast and smoother - and, somehow, nicer to use. If I could strip a few of the un-needed apps from it, it'd be nigh on perfect. It also seems to do better with the battery - something I noticed with Doc's kitchen pretty fast - was how quickly the battery was going down.

Now i know there is some sort of tribal rivalry between to two camps, rather juvenile really.. And I have tried, and have used, several of Doc's roms, for up to a week each. But i again and again come back to Darky's.

So my point is this: has anyone else noticed a difference between the performance of the two? Are there any glaring faults with Darky's or Doc's I should know?

@Brendan you have to go with what suites you best. Can you not use Titanium Backup to remove the apps you don't want? I've tried Darky's roms too. My preference is Doc's roms. I agree aboutthe battery usage. I'd like more life :)

It seems odd to me really - usually the rule with IT is that optimization means both better performance and more efficient use of resources.

My guess is that it's likely the modem that causes a lot of the issues; faster 3G speeds, better Wifi range, and more aggressive GPS locking are sure to cause drain.

From what I've read on the Darky/Doc debate, Darky seems to be a bit hit & miss on fixing issues in a meticulous way - he tends to just crash another ROM out, and gloss over previous issues.

Doc and his crew roll ROMs out on a more orderly fashion (like devs usually do!)

There really doesnt seem to be any difference between doc and darky's roms other than themes and apps. Most of it comes down to the kernel and modem from what I've used.

I have removed them sometimes in the past using this or other methods, but it sometimes leads to instabilities.

So in preference to a stable rom, I usually just leave them there. Time vs results (e.g. I could spend hours researching what apps are safe to remove and how for 10% more ram, or I can spend 1 minute moaning about it and then move on. The moaning is more efficient lol).

• With both rom's, I set them to use GSM only (I never use cell data due to expense; I use wifi exclusively).
• I also have wifi turned on only when actively used, and have set the sleep options on it to turn off when not plugged in.
• I always use auto brightness
• I typically use a dark or plain black background, lots of transparent widgets
• I use a full body skin kit - not a metal case. I even do the same on the phone too lol

The phone will use about 10 to 15% per 12 hours.

With one of the Doc kitchen roms, I chose the JPE modem as it is claimed to be more battery effienct; 1 to 2% per 7 hours; I noticed no improvement. Now, some have commented that such changes only become apparent after some several days usage - the battery needs to re-calibrate or some other mystical process. I think i'd pursue that if there was more than just say-so to it currently.

Amyway, I think it's fair comment to say that if your phone lasts more than a day on the battery, there isn't much of a problem. And I guess there isn't; infact, I sometimes think that having a 1% accurate battery meter is actually the real problem - it's like that ulcer on your gum - it'd heal nicely if you stopped rubbing it with your tongue.. Battery is the same lol.

Anyway, it must be getting late, I'm rambling.

Microsoft are good at that too.

And yet, if I have any problems - it's always been a Doc ROM.

Fact is, I will use whatever works better than what I used last week. Simple as that; i'm not partisan. Recent history has been Darky's.

When I was using my HTC Desire (it's away for repair due to a dead microphone), I used to swap between Sense based rtom's and AOSP/Cyanogen based roms. In the end I tended toward the AOSP roms for it, because they generally had more features. I was never a great fan of Sense as such - it was huge and bloated. Even on those roms i'd replace it with launcher pro or zeam.

each to their own.

I'd switch to Doc's in a minute if it solved the MMS problem we were having. Can we send MMS properly now with a parallel imported i9000?

Someone on Doc's thread posted a spreadsheet listing all the standard apps and identifying those that could be removed.  I think it's in one of the posts on the first page.  I think I also have the link at home.  I'll see if I can find it.

Last night (before your other posts) I decided to turn wifi off.  I usually don't do this.  I was really tired last nght and didn't want to be torn whether to read an email that came in so I thought easiest thing was to remove the temptation i.e. turn wifi off.

I had 1% battery drain last night just a little over 7 hours.  Now that's impressive.

I'm on Doc's Rom with a JPY modem. Been trying to drain my battery (power cycling) since about 4 pm last night. Was left with 7% before I went to bed last night. I woke up with the same 7% this morning.

Here are my stats for the battery:

Display - Time on 2h 22m 48s
Cell standby - time on 2d 18h 5m 14s; Time without signal - 50% (I have no idea what this is about??!!)
Phone idle - 1d 6h 39m 49s
Voice calls - 7m 24s
WiFi - Time on 4h 57m 27s
Time since boot 38h 45m 44s...

This is with the phone being plugged in at some stage into the computer to transfer the icons I found on XDA. And I still have 7% battery left. hahahaha...

So I don't think I have the same battery problems you do Brendan on Doc's roms. :>
