I haven't seen any news of CM7 coming to the SGS, at best it will come to one of the U.S SGS phones. I don't really want to get a Samsung official 2.3 rom with touchwiz bloatware, even these custom roms with most of it removed aren't as great as a real AOSP rom.

lokhor: He's porting the Nexus S rom correct? I wasn't sure if that was still happening. I'd love an AOSP rom.

He's ditched working on that for voodoo sound, now its the cyanogen guys porting over CM7. Anyway samsung have confirmed we're getting an official 2.3 release.

have you got a link for that?

Shrapnel: So I finally got my phone rooted, but which program should I use to backup the efs?I tried a free explorer but there was no efs file at the root.?

Root Explorer - it's a paid app, but I'd consider it pretty much an essential tool, along with Titanium, and ROM Manager .

Thanks, got the efs out, phew

I'm just trying to figure out how to do a nandroid back up. Have backed up my efs using SGS Tools(is this fine?).

Have downloaded Rom Manager and trying to install CWM Recovery, which I can't because I need 2e recovery to do this (currently I have 3e).

Help? I need to figure out how to install CWM Recovery, do a nandroid backup, then I'm all set to flash a new ROM.

Read my post on the previous page about the Voodoo kernel. :-)

If you need a download-mode jig ASAP, you're welcome to borrow mine!  Works with SGS I/II/III.  I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

I'm just wanting to follow lofreq's guide also, and flash that particular ROM. However before I flash ANYTHING I just wan't to get a proper nandroid backup of my current stock ROM.

I guess I can install the Voodoo kernel then go from there or just flash the ROM that Shrapnel has flashed and just do a nandroid backup on that. Hmmm...

To be honest (and this is purely my opinion), nandroid/cwm backups are overrated; the fact of the matter is that restoring apps & data via Titanium etc is infinitely more useful when you're repeatedly flashing new ROMs. Provided your /efs stays intact, getting apps and their data. plus sms/mms/call logs back on a clean install is a doddle.

Get a copy of your efs folder off your phone. Zip it up and email it to yourself.
Its absolutely worthless to you if its sitting on your phone somewhere where it can be wiped.
