Kilack:
n95: Can't get mms to work despite setting up as per instructions earlier in this thread. Anyone else has issues with this? Sending of mms just hangs. Do you get the green 'light' next to the pxt settings when it is set up correctly?

No you won't get a green light next to it, that is only for internet APN's.

OK here is a run down on the exact settings i have, if I don't list the setting it means you leave it blank.
Two APN's I have

number 1:
name: vodafone
apn: www.vodafone.net.nz
apn type: internet
mcc 530
mnc 01
authent type: none

number 2:
name: vodafone mms
apn live.vodafone.com
proxy: 172.30.38.3
port: 8080
server: http://pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend
mmsc: http://pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend
mms proxy: 172.30.38.3
mms port: 8080
mcc: 530
mnc: 01
authentication type: none
apn type: mms

if that doesnt work... then who knows, maybe vodafone are blocking you from using mms :)

Thanks Kilack, for those mms settings finally got it working. I was so focused on the mms APN settings (number 2) I had neglected to check the internet APN settings. Turns out number 1 'APN type' was set to ‘internet and mms’ instead of just internet as it should have been. doh!

Xt1ncT: Kilack - are you happier with this phone now - I saw in another post that you were quite unhappy with Android devices in general, but here you're quite effusive in your praise.

Which is it?

Cheers

It is ok, I think its the pick of the android bunch right now but it still has its flaws which shouldn't be there which is what annoys me.  It just seems with a lot of these phones we take steps forward in one area and steps backwards in others which is quite frustrating.  The main issue for me was the lag which has been resolved so am happy there.  The camera is a bit of a disappointment and so when I snap a bunch of photos and get home and find they are pretty blurry yeah its a bit annoying but anyway... one day they will get it right..
My wife is going to sell hers and get an iphone 4 when they arrive at the end of the month so I am looking forward to comparing these two myself.

I keep buying android devices cause I like android, just a bit unhappy with the hardware that comes with it usually :)

Thanks for that.

I currently have an iPhone 3g and do really like it. However it's showing it's age now and for me it's a toss up between the iPhone4, Desire and Galaxy S. And to be honest, I'm a bit dismayed with some of the issues people have pointed out so really I think the iPhone 4 is favourite at the moment.

But I am a BIG Google fan - my business uses their Google APPs Premier for our email hosting, and so an Android device with it's native ability to sync with Google would be great, but not with some of the issues people have been talking about.

you could also wait 6 months there should be some new releases just before christmas, and around that time Android 2.2 +/- 3.0 will be available.  Android just needs a little more time to mature...

True, but then I could wait another 6 months after that......keep doing that and I'll never get a phone.

Right now I'm leaning towards waiting til after September 30th to see what Apple has in store after that date.

siimo2005: Now expert infotech also has Galaxy S for $899 http://www.einfo.co.nz/shop/product_info.php?products_id=19414 But i've heard this shop is dodgy for after sales support

My experience is that they are not too flash all round. I have ordered stuff from them in good faith where their website says "Stock: Low". They say something like "Will ship within 3 - 5 days." Turns out 'low stock' means they don't have it at all and need to order it themselves from overseas, and then the shipment advice turns into something much longer. I have cancelled more orders with them than have been completed, so I have now given up on them.

Received the second case I ordered(first still MIA) cost me $6NZD incl shipping

originally ordered silicone, but that never arrived, got a plastic jelly style case and I'm pleased with it.  Much harder feeling that silicone and doesn't slide about.  Definitely a bit more added protection.

Also doesn't add much at all to the dimensions of the phone, still very slim:
The design on the back might not be everyones up of tea, looks fine to me and much cleaner/better ni person

Nice. I see it has the same unfortunate cutout on the corner, from the Korean version, that my soft case has. Pity. Would be a little concerned if dropped on that corner.

Can you say exactly what it adds to the depth of the phone thanks?

Or maybe a photo directly from the side?

Yeah the cutout is a pain, I didn't actually notice it till I had a look :S not sure what that was for, I assumed for a dangling thing, but then realised it has it on both sides :(

Adds about 2mm, it's 11mm thick judging my eye, 12.5-13mm with case on, think that sounds about right?

I ordered my Samsung Galaxy S from mobicity, and if I'm reading the Fedex tracking number thing right, its being shipped from Hong Kong, and has just passed through Singapore! I hope I dont have to pay any GST.. it cost $907 nzd exactly after credit card fees were charged (if I understand right, credit cards attract a 3% surcharge.. which most retailers factor into their total price). Anyway, its on its way to me now.. apparently it will arrive before the 21st 6pm. But I'm not sure which timezone that is.. Anyway, I'm hoping it will have the NZ charger, etc and not have any hidden surprises..

If it's going directly to you from an overseas port then I'd be surprised if you don't have to pay GST, unless the shop has already paid the gst for you which is unlikely as their invoice states gst = $0.

I have just ordered 2 skins/cases. I will be able to see which is best from gel or silicon for me. Also they appear to not have the 'South Korean Hole' (oh-er) mentioned above.

Will give my thoughts once I have them in my sweaty hands :)

EDIT: and I get to play with a screen protector to see if they are annoying with response or not.

One thing that my phone misses is play/pause/FF/Rewind controls on the ear phones. Used it all the time with my N95... is there a SGS equivalent? My Nokia ones don't work :(.
