fallen: Currently running Darky 9.1 extreme on my phone, had the phone lock up completly today, had to remove the battery to start it. And also noticed that it takes a while for to connect to my wifi network, anyone have else have those issues before?
Which clock/weather widgets are you guys using? I really liked the accu weather clock that came with the phone but unfortunately it can only be used with the samsung tw launcher..Frown

Sorry to hear that , I had a similar issue running v9.0.2 Extreme Edition where the phone while sitting on table etc would just go blank without even shutting down like it was still on but it didn't appear to be. I did a battery pull which fixed it. This happened twice. I did upgrade to v9.1 for a few hours but then changed to a Doc and Stef rom I cooked up, which so far has been great, maybe to early to comment on stability.

It seems google is releasing something big to do with the market tomorrow, like a pc market? That's what Engadget says at least

Neets, I forgot to ask... Did you gain any extra range on your wireless connection?

I was planning to jump from Darkyy's v8.0 to a Doc rom but decided I'd give 9.1 a go first. My wifi signal and 3G reception are a lot worse than what I've experienced with any of his previous roms.
I'll be looking to move over to Doc's as soon as he makes the updates he hinted at yesterday.

One another note, I'm very happy to now have my NAS and SGS talking to each other via Open VPN.
Combined with my Xnet VFX line and Sipdroid on the phone, I can now use any wifi connection to make free local calls.
Example, if I'm at a cafe that has free wifi, I can tunnel back to my home server (which encrypts the data and prevents eavesdropping,  i.e. firesheep) and then use my voip (VFX) account to make calls.
My speed is limited by my home adsl upload (900kb up), so its not exactly speedy but thats more than enough for checking emails or making voip calls.

How much practical use I get from having this functionality is anyones guess, but it gives me great satisfaction to  get it all configured and working.
I love having my SGS as both a mobile and landline. Now it can sometimes be a landline when I leave the house too.

I've got a new, not fatal, but annoying problem that's occurred since my last flash (Sunday).
My Gmail account wont update.  I will delete email and the Gmail icon still show unread mail, even though it's not only read, but deleted.

When I check my gmail account over the internet, the items deleted from the phone still appear.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Thanks

stranely with my experiences with Darky's roms (i went from 8.0 to 9.0.1, 9.0.2, and now 9.1) i was one of those who never lost system functionality. currently on 9.1, everything is working, wifi connects in 3secs, 3g is fullspeed, phone has never once frizen to the point of requiring a battery pull - closest i can come to a fault is one time the gallery took ages to load up the preview icons... necessitating a back menu press, and relaunching gallery (which worked)

have not had any force-closes as well

its hard to understand the problems some people have reported - like he betatesters it seems luckily enough not to be afffecting my handset... touch wood! :)

plus right now im getting some real good battery performance... 35-40 hours with moderate to heavy use (lik over an hour of voice calls, 3g/wifi most of the time, and playing this stupid robodefence game that i cant stop playing) :D

Mines the worst it has ever been. Lost 14% overnight (7 hours) with the phone in flight mode.
Like most upgrades with his roms, it was non-wipe. I think that might be part of the problem but I'm not going to do a full wipe install just to see.

I have a Stock TNZ Galaxy S running v2.1.

For some odd reason, my phone won't autoconnect to Wifi when I am in range. It has autoconnected for the last couple of months and now I have to manually connect.

I cannot think of any app that I have installed recently that could be affecting this.

Anyone experienced this?

Sorry if this is already answered somewhere else but after reading about page 30 of this thread I gave up.

Is there any fix for the gps issues yet?

Custom rom fix it?

Cheers

The GPS performance in the newer roms (2.2.1) is quite good, but still not up to par with other devices when tracking at high speed (e.g. driving).

Yes. Has been for ages. 2.2 made a big difference to most and I have a post (search for it under my nick) that offers additional info. My SGS locks in 10 secs mostly and will even get a lock indoors (tile roof) so the GPS is a non-issue.

HTH.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner.
HTC Sensation running Jelly Bean 4.1.1, alpha AOSP ROM, on Telecom XT. Rough around the edges but showing much potential considering it's pre-beta. My daily driver now.

lokhor: not up to par with other devices when tracking at high speed (e.g. driving).

Haven't found that to be true with mine here in NZ and even in the States, where it outperformed the Garmin dedicated GPS in the rental.

Sorry to hear you're still having issues lokhor. Bummer...

Cheers,
R2D2

Hmmm. I am on 2.2 - sometimes the GPS tool doesnt even detect any satellites and I find restarting the device is often required.

Also I find that the screen locks while in maps and driving. Very annoying if you want the screen to stay on.

I don't have huge issues, just sometimes have to turn the GPS off and on again to get a lock (even though it can see 8 satellites with 30+ signal) and then when navigating it sometimes is a bit off placing me on a parallel road etc.
