StriderNZ: Neets, I forgot to ask... Did you gain any extra range on your wireless connection?

It does seem to have improved, but the real test with be Saturday morning lazying in bed catching up on XDA, that's been the scenario to date where it's dropped out.

The other thing that is difficult to tell (because I wasn't using Wifi analyzer before hand) is just how things are looking in the Wifi status icon because I've changed theme and the icons are different, so I can't really compare.  I've got my fingers crossed :-)  Thanks!

Your nav app will have the option to keep the screen from locking, so if that's a recurring issue, switch to an app that works properly for you. I used Google Nav in the States and I use Navigon in NZ and I don't experience your problem with either. What makes my SGS different from yours is a matter of conjecture, but my sig has my ROM details if that helps.

The only problems I have with Google Nav is where I choose to detour from the plotted route, and I don't have data switched on. But that's to be expected. I have not had any GPS signal/lock issues since I reset my GPS settings (as per my post).

Somebody else will chime in with a way to resolve your problems if my fix doesn't help you.

Cheers,
R2D2

Neets: I've got a new, not fatal, but annoying problem that's occurred since my last flash (Sunday).
My Gmail account wont update.  I will delete email and the Gmail icon still show unread mail, even though it's not only read, but deleted.

When I check my gmail account over the internet, the items deleted from the phone still appear.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Thanks

I have had this issue before try force closing and Clear Data.

Thanks, not sure why I hadn't figured that out Undecided  lets see if it's any better behaved now.  Thanks lokhor

Pulinski: I have a Stock TNZ Galaxy S running v2.1.

For some odd reason, my phone won't autoconnect to Wifi when I am in range. It has autoconnected for the last couple of months and now I have to manually connect.

I cannot think of any app that I have installed recently that could be affecting this.

Anyone experienced this?

That's annoying.  My wifi problems seem to be something different.  Mine would drop out but the guys here explained to change the channel and it would seem that's resolved my problem.  I don't know if the same type of thing would be of assistance to you or not.

@fahrenheit

Looks like I bought the SGS in the middle of October so that means it's not a post-October device.

HTH in some way...

Looks like we can't nail-down the exact date when the hardware was made. Going by the nv_data.bk you can at least determine when the phone was given its personality (30th of Sept in my case).

They began addressing the antenna design in Sept and made further changes in Oct.
I understand that Sept builds can be considered 'fixed', or 'marginal' and Oct builds can be considered 'fixed' (from a hardware perspective). Your phone probably falls into the 'fixed' camp and mine into the 'marginal' despite them probably sharing similar dates of birth (btw, my battery was manufactured 24/09/10).

Yours was probably first out and mine got the umbilical cord snagged around its neck.

Is there any fix for the gps issues yet?

Custom rom fix it?

Yes. Has been for ages. 2.2 made a big difference to most and I have a post (search for it under my nick) that offers additional info. My SGS locks in 10 secs mostly and will even get a lock indoors (tile roof) so the GPS is a non-issue.

HTH.

what 2.2 are you on? the stock update that Kies pushed onto your phone? SGS's  were not sold new out of box with 2.2 installed were they?

as for screen locking, if you are in google navigation, the screen will stay on for you. in google maps, yes, it will timeout and go blank - i recommend installing the Switchpro widget - one of the toggles is for "screen always on". this keeps the screen on until you toggle it off again. since its just a touch of a button on your homescreen, it is a quick and easy way to manage your phone's state. switchpro will also toggle things like 3g data on and off, autosync and background data, wifi/gps etc radios, autorotate, etc. i view it as a critical app, i cant understand people who dont use it and force themselves to go the long way to manage all these options on their handset.

give it a try hopefully it will make thigns alot easier for you.

You'll note in that thread that there are people saying that it can't be done with the international version of the phone. They are correct.
Its a hardware limit and that person who started that thread is merely enabling something that his provider (AT&T) disabled by default.
