I always use Titanium Backup to restore my apps, it's definitely worth paying for.

defragger: So I'm running Darky's 9.0.2 atm. Apparently have to wipe to 9.2. Wonder if I should go to 9.2 or try out Doc's ROM which I'm kinda keen to do. Hmmm...

If in doubt, try them out! Wow that rhymes. I mean +/- 200MB each and 15 minutes flashing each there is no harm in trying them both out and deciding which one you like the best, they're both highly polished roms and picking one is going to be more up to you. I personally after using Darky's v9.0.2 decided to move to Doc's for a trial and found it had a little bit of an edge on speed and stability, or maybe it was my imagination?! So give em' both a try

well i ve asked nearly all the online sites for a xt compatible galaxy s none of them got it in stock (mobi city etc) only option is to get it from telecom store :(

if anyone owns one
can you answer these questions

1 is it locked to xt network only ( after modding it can work on voda network in extended 3g as well?)

2. after modding it will it void your warranty?

3.how much branded does it come with ? eg telecom logo at start up etc

thanks

i ve already got a galaxy s voda one if anyone knows how to boost the reception signal tell me lol only reason going to XT, cell towers 2km from us (i am rural)

1. It wont be locked to the XT network because the telecomunication companies in New Zealand are not allowed to sell locked handsets.

2. Rooting and custom firmware officially voids your warranty, but you can usually get away with it

3. minimal branding, it wouldn't bother 99% of users

i own a telecom SGS bought thru one of their stores in the mall just before they ran out.

1) it is quadband GSM and triband 3G (UTMS) 850/1900/2100. so it will work fine for 2g gsm calls on voda, and will use 2100 for voda 3g in most areas including SOME rural. in super rural areas where voda only have a 900mhz 3g service, you will lose 3g, but still operate on 2g. so you will still get data, but at the superslow GPRS speed. so yes technically you will be fine unless your 'rural' is really in the stix and you only get 900mhz 3g from voda out there. correct me if im wrong people. i dont know how extensive voda's 2100mhz service is.

2) any phone will void its warranty if you swap the firmware out. however there are more than enough methods to make a complete backup of your system such that you can revert if necessary. the SGS is near impossible to brick as long as it physically is still able to boot into 3BR download mode such that you can flash it something over Odin. so i really dont think it is a problem. there IS an OTA update to 2.2 that Kies will push to your handset, so you can still have something over Eclair. so you can always allow Kies to push a default build back on your phone so it appears to be factory again.

3) the phone comes with the stock browser renamed as "YxT!" (Yahoo Xtra telecom), and it comes with a "Your Telecom" shortcut to your default account homepage for you to access things like your monthly usage, personalised links etc - just stuff for novices. everything else is stock android, the boot screen is a blue screen with an animated 'telecom spark' that draws itself in white, with a short couple of customised chords - shutdown is the reverse. its actually done quite well and is not offensive or amature looking.

hope that helps

There are a whole lot of Captivate's(AT&T US) on trademe, they might not be so suitable for modding but they are XT(850mhz 3g). I know you can make Doc and Stef Kitchen roms for it and there is a speedmod version for Captivate, personally I reckon the look nicer too and they're 16gb. Hope this helps

Ironically the only time you'd need to take it in barring a hardware fault is if you fully brick it. In which case they have no idea whether you've modded it or not.

I am having a wifi issue on Darky'r 9.2 Extreme Edition. The phone connects to my wifi fine, no problems there. I have enabled the wifi sleep to turn off when the screen turns off. The problem is that when I turn on my screen the wifi doesnt start scanning and connect to my phone immediately. I have had to go to the wifi to get it to scan and connect to my network. Has anyone else come across this problem? Apart from this, the rom is slick and fast.

Someone mention Captivate? Laughing

As above from Shrapnel. I did personally like the Captivate ahead of the Galaxy S for it's squarer looks. It's also cheaper.

It must be modded though. The default Captivate modem upload is capped at 300kb/s. The fools at AT&T crippled the modem in order to urgh.. keep iPhone 4 users happy by making sure there was more bandwidth for them. B'stards Laughing

My preferred ROM is Serendipity. Dont use Doc's Captivate kitchen, but it's still the goods.

not biggies for me. Listen to my preferred stations online and no need for the front facing camera. not a step backwards IMO. Those are 2 minor issues in the overall makeup of the phone so I went ahead and got it after weighing it all up. I spent $550NZ on it. That's a total win. Warranty issues no major. I bought the Cappy from the USA via ebay and also bought by HTC Touch Pro2 from Australia. Overseas warranties for both. I'm pretty confident in my abilities to make sure I don't brick it. It could always happen but I'm aware of the risks.

Might try out Doc's ROM first, however will wait till the kitchen updates as I have read it hasn't updated for a while now.

im also on 9.2 and also have wifi sleep set to "when screen off". when i unlock/turn the screen back on, wifi is up and ready to rock. i have noticed in v8.0 roms, that upon waking, the wifi was visibly off, and took a few seconds to reconnect. now in 9.2 it wakes up much much faster.

sorry this possibly doesnt help as it might suggest its your phone - what modem are you using? i am on UGJL2
