kiwijunglist: Hi

Can someone please tell me.

What is the name of the app that automatically backs up the IMEI / EFS / NV_DATA files (not rootexplorer)?

I'm gonna flash a new rom on my friend's telecom i9000, I'm gonna flash it to stock samsung firmware 2.21, can someone tell me which modem I should flash for 850Mhz?

Thanks
Kiwi

ps: dont tell lokhor, he'll get real mad... ;p

850mhz modem:

JL2:

You can use JPA but apparently JL2 is better and I agree

have been following this thread for ages but still have not flashed a custom rom yet. Thinking of trying on this weekend but just have some questions I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to answer for me that I'm just not 100% sure about after reading though lots of different posts and threads.

Currently I'm running Telecoms unofficial 2.2 build that I used the registry hack to load and I'm now thinking of going to a Doc rom, so the questions I have are as follows.

on this instruction page - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926399 - it says to do the following -

Section A
Flashing a Speedmod Kernel Guide here.
Then go to Section E

so have read through the "guide" which says to use the Odin file and load the speedmod with Odlin which  all seems fine but then when you go to section E it says "Flashing a Doc Rom if/when you have clockworkmode" so do I also have to then install clockwork mod or does loading the speed mod part also load the clockworkmode?

next question I have is once I have flashed the Doc rom onto my phone then how do I load the JL2 modem that Shrapnel has just mentioned?

And the really important question is if I do a back up with TB and then restore Angry birds will it restore all the levels I have completed?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the above advice, have backed up the efs for my friends i9000T

now i plan to use odin to flash Froyo 2.2.1 - i9000XXJPY.rar followed then i will flash the JL2 modem, is this correct?

PS. his phone already has 3 button recovery & DL mode

The only thing i wonder is that if i do it this way if he upgrades in kies in the future will it install a 900Mhz modem rather than an 850Mhz modem

Should i instead flash I9000UGJL2 or I9000BVJJPD

or is there a better way for him to goto a stock froyo 2.2.1 firmware with 850mhz modem that can be upgradable using kies in the future, but still retain 850mhz modems?

Hey nzgman

Speedmod has CWM(clockworkmod) in it, so when you flash speedmod via Odin which you seem to have sorted, you will have CWM. Once you have CWM there is no real use for Odin unless its in an emergency. CWM allows you to flash anything from themes, system apps etc to kernels, modems or full roms, but be sure when downloading content to flash with CWM that it is made for it and not Odin, if you try and flash something thats for odin with CWM it won't work at all and cause some problems with your phone(not booting). So when you flash a rom from Doc and Stef's Kitchen you chuck it on your SD card and reboot into recovery(vol up, home and power) and you scroll down to "install zip from sd card", select the rom from your sd and let it flash, if it comes up with failed almost straight away you may have to turn signature verification off(someone tell me if I'm right about this). Before you do flash it is smart to do a backup of your current rom and then a cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe and a factory reset. Also flashing on a full battery avoids your battery life going all crazy and doing a battery cycle after the flash brings your battery back to its full potential. And after you've flashed the rom you can use the link above your post I gave to download the CWM JL2 modem and install it in the same way you did for the rom but wipes are most certainly not necessary for this, only when your installing wipe roms. As for angry birds I have no idea sorry.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your new fast phone!

Doc posted this link in the #romkitchen this morning.  It's a fixed browser.  It will be replaced in the kitchen this weekend.

lokhor: is the JS5 browser broken or something?

No, but have you ever seen how when you load a new page it gives you the transparent background (the white/grey chequered look)?  This one apparently is a fix for that.

Just to clarify this, Doc posted that the JS5 browser got missed off the Galaxy kitchen page, but was included in the Captivate page.  So if you cooked a Galaxy ROM in the days following it's release, you would still have the chequerboard JS3 browser.

Thanks so much for your help Shrapnel, have now flashed my first custom rom.
Now I just have to reload all my apps and settings :-( and figure out which launcher I like and remove the other ones I installed with the ROM.

How do you check if 3g 850Mhz is enabled? and if it's not how did you enable it?

install sgs tools from the market and then into secret codes and then band selection.

modems like jl2, jl3, jk3, jk4 usually have 850 3g enabled by default, otherwise select via the above method.
