nofam:

Hard to say unequivocally old chap -  when I upgrade a ROM I tend to go the whole hog and do the kernel and modem too. . . .so while the drain with JPY was probably higher for the reason mentioned above, I'd say the battery life is actually better now, so the loss has been offset by gains in the kernel and ROM itself. To be fair though, I always switch 3G off when I'm not using the phone, and wifi reconnects in about 2 seconds from lock.

Phone off charge yesterday morning, and it's currently showing 77% - not bad for 30-odd hours!! Cool

Bloody amazing, I'd say. Wow!

Whatever combination you're curently using, it's legendary. Samsung should bottle it. :D

Mine's sitting at 75% after 13 hours which isn't too shabby considering 3G has been enabled for 100% of that time.

Cheers,
R2D2

You should flash the Speedmod kernel, it has CWM built in.

I'm guessing that I'll need to factory wipe and remove OCLF prior to flashing it with Odin?

Or is the flash sufficient. (I know enough now to make sure my battery is charged 100% - :D )

Thx for your help dude.

Neets: Andrew, the trader from TradeMe has confirmed there was a rush on the "Best Skins".  He was intrigued enough to search out and find our thread.

Anyway, mine arrived this morning.  I've watched a couple of YouTube video's Andrew provided links for.  I think Brendan is right, it's going to a bit of patience.  This'll be a test for me ;-)

I ordered one too. also bought a sealed box i9000t on TM for 850

Remove OCLF, don't worry about factory wiping. Wiping Dalvik Cache might be a good idea though. Check the Speedmod thread on XDA, I haven't flashed a kernel using Odin in ages.

Got a CWM update off the net and replaced my old update.zip with it, loaded the cwm from ROM Mangler and applied the JPA wifi driver. Will test it before attempting to flash the SpeedMod ROM - prolly do that in the weekend as I'm tight for time (not surprising considering how much time I've spent on the web today). Embarassed

Thanks for your sage wisdom.

Nice. My incredible battery life from a few days back is not so incredible anymore. All of a sudden I'm getting 20% battery drop overnight. No idea why. Haven't flashed anything new or anything. Very very strange.

For the guys that are getting battery drain have you checked your wifi firmware? The latest doc's releases have been using the JPY firmware.

Don't forget to put back the other update.zip file.  If you ever find yourself up the creek without a padle having that update.zip file will prove to be extremely valuable :)

I followed along like a good little solider and turned Wifi off overnight.  I had 1% battery drain Monday/Tuesday but about 8% battery drain Tuesday/Wednesday, still with Wifi turned off.

Can't explain the hit and miss results when I hadn't done anything new, perhaps had some updated apps but no new apps.

Well now, with your pruned up vanilla rom, that def. doesn't apply to you now :)  The latest Doc Roms are JS5.  But JS5 with the fixed wifi.

I've got Doc's 9.6 I believe and it had JPY firmware. If you wanna check turn wifi off and back on, then type:

adb shell
dmesg | grep Firmware

It will either have June 4 or November 16 date, June 4 is the 'fixed' version.

If you have time to explain that, I'd be grateful. I figured the previous update.zip was a version of cwm but obviously not. I still have it (just changed the extension to 'old' from 'zip') and the update.zip is still on the sd card although I don't know if it's needed there after the cwm recovery has been flashed.

Any info will be entirely welcome.
