Neets:

Ok, you've sold me on it.  I even used my precious mobile data to download it.  Set the sleep thingy and enabled it via the widget.  I hope that was all I needed.  Cheers.

Um... well, you can use the menu to select the notifications you want to add or remove, and whether you want icons to show what the notifications are or simply the default coloured squares. I have notifications enabled for Gmail, email, sms, missed calls and voicemail but there are heaps more by app if you want to enable them including RSS and such. Your call really. But if you're happy with just Gmail, then you prolly want to disable the missed calls and such that are also the defaults.

What a very long paragraph.  :D

Cheers,

Shrapnel: Doc Rom v11 ZSJPK out in the kitchen

Installed ZSJPK, was getting force closure(gingerbread keyboard) from boot, gone back to V10 ZSJPG, reading up on XDA forum it seems that there are few issues with ZSJPK, I might stay put with V10 and update to gingerbread once a stable version is released.

I feel like a hypocrite saying that as I haven't and probably aren't going to upgrade. cannot leave my R64 theme :P

I'm not upgrading either - I don't see the benefit of flashing the Asian roms just because they are newer. JS8 is pretty great so no need to upgrade till Gingerbread becomes stable.

Restart. Cures many an evil...

Have done multiple restarts and have checked to see if auto-rotation is not off etc etc.

I think I will just flash up to Doc's Rom v10 and hopefully that fixes it. Was meaning to do so anyway.

One other possible cure, switch launcher, restart, and switch back to your preferred launcher again. If it works, it's a lot easier than a ROM flash. But of course, if you really want to flash... Smile

Cheers,
R2D2

Edit: Spelink wos knot guod

Mucked around with the launchers but still no good.

I see you guys are talking about the newer v10 and v11 of Doc's Rom. What seems to be the main differences between these new versions and the JS5/JS8 versions. It it not worth upgrading and are there incompatibilities with things such as themes etc?

I think i might just reflash JS8 if that is the case.

Also my phone still manages to lose network service/signal at least once a day. Only a restart seems to bring it back. I have tried using apps like Signal Refresh but it doesn't seem to work at all.

This issue has plagued me since the day I got my phone(early Dec). Could it be hardware related?

The signal problem could be hardware related, you could try different modems to see if that makes a difference though. The accelerometer (or whatever controls orientation) may also be damaged if its not working at all.

Yeah I'd try reflashing the rom and if not fixed then a different modem like Lokhor said. Never had to restart on JL2 for signal and it has only been lost as there is real bad reception where I live.

One for the exercise buffs out there - can you recommend, or do you use, any of the exercise "tracking" apps available in the market.

I have come across "mapmyrun" and "mytracks", but there seems to be plenty out there. Tried using mapmyrun, but it seems to struggle getting accurate GPS data.

Would be interested to know of any people could recommend.

Along with that, are there any cases available for use with an SGS while exercising. Can't seem to find any.

Thanks. Matt.

Check out CardioTrainer - I use it for walking/cycling, and it's very accurate/locks quickly on satellites.

True with the newer base roms v10 etc, most of the themes do not work. Though I quite like BAT LE theme.

been doing this since nov last yr and im really starting to see some results.

I would like to recommend the Ultimate rom 8.2 along with damians latest ultimate kernel and the JVE modem.

Like everyone else  I have been using mostly the ROM kitchen and Darky's roms. They are fine, no doubt about it, but I think they have lost the lead. Ultimate rom 8.2 is both faster and more stable. Coupled with Damian's kernel, it really flies.

The JVE modem is proving to be quite good on signal and battery too.

I found the JVK (gingerbread, Darky's)  to be unstable and sluggish. Also lacking in features - will look at it again when the kernel source code is released. Some really like it, but I found it also used more battery.

Anyway, give ultimate 8.2 a go, and try it with the latest beta of the ultimate kernel (make sure you don't use the version for gingerbread).

Fair call, but it's rapidly getting to the point that comparing one really good ROM to another is redundent; kind of like bragging that your Ferrari is faster than my Lamborghini. . . . I'm not suggesting you're bragging of course, but my point is that they're both stupidly fast, and I really can't see how any more speed/smoothness etc is an improvement.  My current setup (as per my sig) is the fastest I've ever had, and after 48 hours off charge this morning, I still had 60% battery - this is after around 2 hours of 3G Internet use, 30 minutes of gaming, a few phone calls, and a bunch of txts over the last few days.

That's also why I couldn't give a flying foxtrot about Gingerbread at this stage.

Seems like reflashing did the trick so now have orientation working. Not a hardware issue :D

However I still think the signal loss could be, although wouldn't mind flashing a new modem. What are some compatible modems that people on here use for Telecom?
