Came across this site which gives details about what to back up when you flash a rom. Haven't read it yet. Sorry can't do a nice hyperlink from the phone.

Has anyone else configured the Mobile tracker which is in Settings > Location and security > Mobile tracker ?

I have tried and then logged into samsungdive.com to use the locate phone feature however it says it is not supported in this country.

Yep. Doesn't work for me either. I get a popup saying the service doesn't work in some countries for legal reasons and clicking through to the location screen gets me this...

So I emailed with a request for an explanation but won't be holding my breath. Assume there's some reason the carriers can't/won't report the info needed to plot the phone's pozzie. The popup I get doesn't say "this country" though so maybe it's a different error?

On a different topic, does VF here provide a visual voicemail service? (you get to see the numbers or contacts instead of having to listen to them all, although arugably the missed call feature will provide that info most of the time).

Cheers,
R2D2

So got my Galaxy S back from repairs today. They have put it back to stock 2.1 Eclair. I have no idea what they have fixed as there is nothing on the receipt and as I got someone else to pick it up for me but they did ask them if I had downloaded anything on it. So I guess they suspected I had been downloading custom ROMS etc and flashing them.

I don't think it has lost signal since I got it back, but surely the firmware (having 2.2/2.3 instead of 2.1) shouldn't make a difference?

For those of you who don't know, my phone has been losing signal randomly at least once a day, with the only way of getting it back was having to restart the phone. So I had it sent back for repairs.

Guess will test Eclair out for a couple of days and see if it loses signal, then start the whole flashing process again.

Depends on what modem came with the ROM you were flashing I guess. Wouldn't have thought it would have that effect though, losing signal completely.

The modem that you are running though can make a LOT of difference. I flashed a gingerbread darky ROM and went with the recommended modem. I found my phone was going flat within 24 hours.

I asked here on Geekzone what modem others were using in NZ and changed to that. I now get 2 plus days use without having to recharge.

You can't really tell if 2.2/2.3 will make a difference unless you try them ,but I can't see how your phone would have the same problem again because of the software used on it if it is the same as all the other i9000T's and if no one has the same problem on the rom or modem used, but it is really up to you. I don't really want to be responsible if I encourage flashing to 2.2 or whatever and it causes the same problem.

Good to see it got fixed though :)

Yeah there is no point in me staying with 2.1. It's slow and lacking heavily in some features. So will definitely flash to 2.2/2.3 very soon, once I make sure that the problem is 100% fixed. And if the problem does indeed come back then I have a variety options, one of which is selling this and getting a SGS II :D

I have another question, has anyone used the Rom Kitchen? What is a good combo for an NZ phone (what do you guys use), and do I need to install this Clockwork Mod thing? It's all rather confusing.

I flashed Darkys with Odin and their forum had very comprehensive tutorials.
