Who said WiFi drains the battery! Hah, personally I think this is light usage, mainly phone calls and texts, checking email and gmail every now and then.

lokhor: I've been using JVH for a few days now and still not seeing how it's any better than JS8. I contacted Gameloft about Nova not working and they sent me a new copy that still doesn't work :(

i think its more of a ginger bread issue than game lofts fault they changed sum-thing in it that's wrecking the gfx, most of my game loft games not working  :(

excellent partI review man, wish i could afford one of these right now :D

i didnt really think the whites were that drastically different - it is a much cooler hue of white than earlier amoled efforts, and without an iphone to constantly compare to i think it is a nonevent. the sidebyside photo of engadget immediately shows how the screensize and contrast trumps the extrafine but tiny apple offering

but holy crap, that back panel flexes like that!? cripes. could they have used a brushed aluminium sheet instead perhaps? im guessing it was the only way to keep the price competitive. you could note, that once the phone is in a case of some sort (which is very likely for most users - and given its thin size to begin with, would not seriously affect girth) then the phone construction matrerials/texture etc become moot...

have happily shared on my FB to the dismay and confusion of my iSheep friends :D looking forward to part2 - or should i say, part II ;p

I hate how I'm the only person who struggles to get a day out of their phone :(

If I leave wifi on it uses a lot of battery too, im still running what came on the phone though (parallel import) froyo 2.2.1 kernel 2.6.32.9, I9000XXJPY

I think I would get about 24hrs with wifi on. Might throw on a new ROM at some point tho.

Have you set wifi to hibernate when the screen's off? Works for me. The only battery killers on my SGS are the screen itself and the GPS if I accidentally leave it on. Otherwise, it's good for 40 hrs +.

HTH.

HTC Sensation running Jelly Bean 4.1.1, alpha AOSP ROM, on Telecom XT. Rough around the edges but showing much potential considering it's pre-beta. My daily driver now.

No one's stopping you from going back! GB isn't for everyone and personally I think it's a bit betarish myself in the dept. of compatibility. But in saying that my Gameloft games work(Sandstorm and Hawx).

Gameloft are offering me a free game because Nova doesn't work so I asked for Eternal Legacy.

Is anyone using the SGSII email app/function.

If so, how are you finding it.

Have been using it for about a week now and don't find it that efficient, compared to the stock app. Doesn't seem to sync when it should, then when it does, it doesn't load emails, even though I know they are emails to be synced. Also, it doesn't always update the sync time/date ?

I like th elook feel of it, would just prefer it to work properly.

Wondering if anyone else is having any issues ?

I see at DSE that the Samsung Galaxy S i9000T is going for $749. I assume that the T in the model number indicates it's the Telecom one?? The Vodafone site shows no model number..

If it is does that indicate that the SGS2 may be on it's way soon??

im using it - it syncs with my exchange account fine which is what i primarily use it for - work email notifications. i also have it loaded with my hotmail and gmail accounts and so far they work fine too.

difference is i have all syncing done manually, as and when i need it - so i just enable data, then jump into the app. the spinny icon thing starts spinning immediately without me having to refresh, and in about 5-15secs all email is downloaded and updated depending how much there is

i actually had problems like what you described, with the galaxy tab versoin of the email.apk - that one would not download emails that i knew were sitting there (confirmed by checking webmail) and i never solved that one.

maybe its something on the phone thats interfering with the email.apk. remember back there was that problem where the camera app (or gallery app) affected the email?? or something weird like that? reflashing one seemingly unrelated app fixed the other. cant remember the specifics but it was a real problem

Yes it's part of the Tweaky Rom I'm trying. Always pauses when opening emails, and occasional lags at other times, which is painful, but I like the interface and other parts to it so am persisting with it.

...it DOES pause on opening emails! so its not me being picky. heh. it seems like its trying to buffer the whole email before opening it, definitely slows down when youre trying to click the 'next' and 'previous' buttons... that part admittedly is annoying.
