lokhor: Yeah I think Go Launcher Ex is also pretty sweet, it has some different features such as being able to organise apps into folders in the app drawer which is quite nice. I don't use it because it doesn't have the scrolling widgets that LPP has.

Go Launcher EX has scrolling widgets and always has had. I use them myself.

I purchased ADW Ex and Launcher Pro. But Go Launcher ex is better.

Shrapnel:
I'm still learning though :P Good to have the info. Sometimes if the file you're flashing with odin is able to be opened in WinRar it will notify you of archive corruption in which case you know to do a new download of it.

Good point, it should also work for zip files.

BUT: it will only tell you if the file was corrupted AFTER being compressed; not if the file was corrupted and then compressed.

It'd be pretty unlikely though, most of the guys on XDA are careful.

Hence, checking several 512 pit files together is the best way to guarantee you have a good one: choose the ones that all add up the same, lol.

lokhor: Ok so I want to do a full flash including a repartition. Can anyone point me to the cleanest JVH/JVO stock rom (do they have different bootloaders?) and a good source for the 512 pit file?

I'm not sure what custom rom I will put on after flashing, maybe Juwe's again unless someone else can attest to another stable working rom.

I got mine through the GENERAL forum on XDA (i9000 forum).

You can tell if its the bootloader version by opening it in 7zip etc and checking for sbl.bin, boot.bin.

Read what people in that forum say about the file first though.

Specifically, it'd be nice to know the the 3 button recovery still works....

This is strange Odin appears to be frozen or something. unsure what to do

Scary! Happened to me also, but at a worse place.

Notice the Message panel: it had not actually gotten to writing anything to the phone yet, that's how you were safe. It's verified the rom files as valid...

It looks like it's had some trouble negotiating a connection to your phone:

1. Did you ensure kies was NOT in memory? Kies will interfere and you're lucking it didn't stuff your phone. Never flash you phone through kies.
2. Did you run Odin BEFORE you plugged the phone in?
3. Did you have the phone USB plugged directly INTO the computer (NO hub) or use a POWERED usb hub (seems to work also)?
4. Did you ensure the USB cable was not faulty (very common - they are often being bent and moved, and a weak one can have intermittent failures - has happened to me, and if it happened while I was flashing a bootloader.............).

lokhor: ok nothing to worry about apparently. just had to take the battery out and try again..

If the messages panel in odin says it's writing something, don'd do that. Or at least wait 20 minutes to ensure it has, truly, frozen. Nothing to loose then... your phone probably toast (unless it managed to get past the PIT, boot.bin, and sbl.bin....)

I am not sure why I had the issue with Odin but a battery pull and reboot back to download didn't cause any issues. Managed to flash Simply Honey 3.5 rom with the DamianGTO kernel. I really don't like the sharpness that Damian has put in so trying to switch to FuguKernel. Unfortunately I converted to Ext4 first and so couldn't boot Fugu. Have to switch back to RFS, flash Fugu and back to Ext4 afterwards.

On my old pc odin would fail first try regardless of what I was flashing. After a battery pull it flashed fine, it's not the most stable of tools.

Ok tech-savvy people. I've chosen the original SGS thread to post my 1,000th post.
Have nothing much to say. I've ordered my SGS2 from Unlocked Mobiles in the UK. Had ideas of picking it up in person but sadly we've had to cancel our much anticipated overseas holiday as my father-in-law has been given just weeks to live.

On that cheerful note I'll leave you to continue tinkering/flashing/drooling over your SGS's. Cheerio.

Congrats on the 1000th post buddy :-) Look forward to hearing your experiences about your eagerly anticipated SGS II :-)

Thoughts are also with you at this difficult time. Stay strong and have faith.

Just wondering, is there a program that mimics your phone so that you can remote your phone from the pc? I'm sure there is but couldnt locate one, or my googling hasnt been very effective. It's just so i can text from the pc while my phone's charging :D

As of present, my GB experience has been great. TW4 isnt that bad but still prefer Launcher Pro for the speed. TW4 tends to hang sometimes for me and it locks the phone up.

Cheers.

So managed this with my current setting as per my signature.

Light to moderate use, mainly WIFi browsing, light 3G use, texting, some photos and a few phone calls resulted in ~94 hours of battery.

Pretty good :)
