lokhor: Have any of you guys tried out a custom JVP Rom? I see Faryab has released one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058814

It sounds like it has custom lockscreens, crt screen off, overscroll glow and all the other fancy stuff. I really want a google talk with working video chat using the ffc and so far have been disappointed.

I'm planning on waiting for the Rom kitchen I think - I just really like be able to choose what I want to install, without the hassle of freezing Samsung apps etc.

Have you seen this by the way?  Just going to try it out.

SGSIII
ROM: WanamLite v1.3    Kernel: Ninphetamine v1.1.0   Modem: DXLEA

SGSII (Now belongs to SWMBO)
ROM: WanamLite v12     Kernel: Siyah v3.3.2   Modem: BVLPB

SGS

If you need a download-mode jig ASAP, you're welcome to borrow mine!  Works with SGS I/II/III.  I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

I'm fairly certain that only works on the HTC Thunderbolt.

I flashed frayaab's JVP last night.  Seems ok but there's no auto rotate (landscape) orientation unless you're using TW launcher.  I hate auto rotate but as the phone is now Mr Neets's phone and he really likes it, I had to move back to TW.

Battery life seems to be pretty decent, though he's not used it much today.  I can't for the life of me find the custom lock screens.  Maybe I've forgotten where they're located but I've looked and came up empty.

I guess we should try Google Talk with the FF camera, never tried before.

@nofam, Xiff (or JS8 on XDA) found that as soon as he flashed the (beta) JVP his phone got stuck in the final boot up animation.  JVP from fraayab worked without a problem.  So there's some fine tuning still to be done for the RK version.  I've not popped in today to see how they're all going so they may well have made some headway.

In the meantime I'm now considering going back to CM7 (from where I came for JVP).  I also flashed my Mum's I9000 today to stock JVP and rooted it for her.  I'm getting my hands dirty on everyone else's phone.

@R2D2 loving the SGSII.  I can't fault anything.  I'm more than happy with stock.  Unbelievable battery life for me (I know not everyone has been so fortunate).  It's so beautiful. Amazing screen, rich vibrant colours, it's responsive, fast and a real joy to use.  And it took less than a day for me to forget it's slight size different.  It doesn't feel awkward or clumsy to use.  I just love it.

Nope, on JVP there's no video showing up in Google Talk for me.  I have it installed on the lap top but the SGS doesn't show a video camera icon in the contact list.

You might need to install Google Talk 1.3 the easiest way being by getting: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brainwashstudio.talkinstaller&feature=search_result

Yeah, I knew almost immediately after posting that there was likely to be a new version I would need.

So it works Laughing

I used Mr Neets phone to make a call to me on my laptop (SGSII on 2.3.3 so can't do phone to phone).  The phone worked flawlessly.  My laptop didn't show the FFC from the phone but that's because the Adobe plugin keeps crashing on my laptop and wont display the video.

If that's all you were waiting for to determine whether it was worthwhile flashing JVP, I say GO!

Xiff has the RK JVP version working.  You can NOT include a custom boot animation.  That's what caused the problem.  Not sure why yet, but it will work so long as you don't select a custom boot animation in your ROM.

He's very impressed with the battery and the time to power on/off.

lukei1: Chaps,

Probably not in the spirit of the forum, but my flatmate has a case for his iPhone 4 (boooo) that has a sleeve which can hold credit cards etc

Has anyone come across one of these for the Galaxy S? Spent ages googling and haven't been able to find anything. Is there any website that is a definitive source for Galaxy S covers? Cheers

Perhaps something like this?

Here's the link for the search I put in.  I only looked at the first page.

Page 2 had this one.  Right, got to go so no more looking for me :)

Hi all

Is this the right place to ask about stock firmware issues? I've updated to stock 2.3.3 using kies and I'm having a number of basic performance issues.

Do you know what build the stock firmware is?

what sort of performance issues do you mean?

According to settings the build number is xwjvh.

Performance issues: when I am on a call and receive another. When I reject the second call I lose the audio on my end. Only workaround I have found so far is to switch to speaker. I have also had a few phone lock ups where I have had to hard reset the phone.

I didn’t even know these existed:

I wonder what would happen if you tried to flash a modem onto it?  It has wi-fi, so must have some of the same chipset as the phone?

Yes the Samsung take on the iPod touch. 5" screen though! But pretty sure they would have omitted the 2G/3G hardware, no need to include it.

Sweet got the latest beta of Swype on my phone. Has some cool new features, one of which is Tap Correction. Check it out as it's only available for a limited time.

On the site it says:

If your phone came pre-installed with Swype
DO NOT download this beta (it won't work)

Also I have installed Swype on my SGS from the beta after uninstalling the preinstalled version and had massive lag issues with it.
