Does anyone have original firmware?? Just got new SGS from insurance claim. Got from DSE and updated to gingerbread straight away. Turns out they gave me a 900MHz Band model (used for Vodafone) but I'm on XT so it doesnt work! Need original Firmware so i can return it!

Do you remeber what it was out of the box?  Samfirmware has the majority of stock stuff to flash via odin, otherwise, look in the xda forums for stock firmware.

Just uploading now:

PDA: JVH / Phone: JV1 / CSC: JV1 (VNZ)

Will post the link in about 20 minutes

Here you go:

http://www.multiupload.com/GQQ18XKUE3

Extract the .tar file from the .rar, and load it into Odin in the PDA section.  Make sure re-partition is UNTICKED.

This isn't tested by me, but I've had a poke through the .tar contents, and it's definitely a VFNZ JV1 ROM.

Let us know how you go!

Brendan: Completely different modem hardware sorry neets. You would probably brick your phone. Try the jv3 modem for the sgs.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I I just did a cursory search and can't locate a JV3 modem.  Do you have a CMW3 flashable file or know where I can get one?  Cheers.

Thanks for that.  I've flashed it.  And the Android in Network Signal Info is crying!  That's the worst one so far.  It makes all the other seem fair hoofing along, even though they're around 26- 30% of the full strength.

Oops, in the time it's taken me to type that, I have a smiling Android.  Crikey, it's got multiple personalities Surprised

It's dropped a bit again but it's now between 45-50% which is the BEST it's been.

Maybe it's a keeper after all ;-)

Thanks nofam and Brendan.

EDIT:  We're back to tears again.  Why is it so fickle?

Might have something to do with the interference and infrastructure problems there in Christchurch.

Or it's packed a tanty because you have a sgs 2 now.... lol.

I think the jv3 modem is one of the best for NZ anyway.

The thing is I have a point of reference.  My SGS2 has a top notch signal.  So if there's dodgy things going on with dodgy connections in Christchurch (and I'm in no position to say it couldn't possibly be ;-)) then why wouldn't it be apparent with the SGS2 as well?

I'd have expected if the signal of one phone was rubbish, then another phone sitting side by side with the same network would also have rubbish signal strength.  Am I being too simplistic in my thinking?

Not simplistic but ruling out that they have different antenna designs and that perhaps the SGS2 is just a lot better. Try different modems out and let us know anyhow.

Yup - I have a full Nandroid backup of Telecom 2.2, which would work with a bit of effort. . .

You're on a customer gingerbread now though right?  The JV1 rom I've uploaded is Vodafone's NZ Gingerbread, so you shouldn't need to repartition as it's GB to GB.

Hard to compare two different models like that, the antenna and radio are different. Maybe the sgs2 has a bigger internal aerial, or more sophisticated amplification. Or maybe one or both of the phones are lying about the signal strength (very common - if a customer gets lots of bars, it MUST be good right?).

Sure - just uploading now.  It looks like it's actually Eclair.

Just to be clear though, you have a 900Mhz/Vodafone phone you need to get back to stock, not an 850Mhz Telecom one right?

To get the Nandroid backup to work, I would try:

- Flashing a stock DOJJ1 ROM (or as close to as you can get)
- Flashing a custom 2.1 kernel (i.e. speedmod) to get CWM recovery/Nandroid and root access
- Use a file explorer tool with SU capability to take a copy of your /efs folder ==> VERY IMPORTANT - restoring this from another phone MAY overwrite your IMEI
- Put the Nandroid onto your internal SDcard
- Boot into CWM, and restore from there

This is all from memory, so I'd suggest you read up a bit first.  Once you have 2.1 on the phone, Kies should let you upgrade to the official telecom 2.2:

@nofam has you jig arrived already?  Maybe mine has arrived but until our building has been inspected we're working remotely.  It could be sitting at work waiting for me.

And 2nd nosey question.  Did you give your SGS to your better half?
