I asked what version of Odin you are using. These details matter. Have you tried right clicking the Odin exe and running as administrator?

I have tried Odin v1.3 and Odin v1.7. However I have not run as Admin....I'll give that a go.

downloading v1.82 now. Might have a faulty USB port. I have not had much luck in the past with mass storage mode either. However I did root the phone using SuperOneClick.

No Kies or any other software in the tray....killed most other stuff as well.

On the youtube video...the guy just plugs the phone in, then he gets a yellow box with a com port number. No me. I have tried leaving it for 20 mins....no cigar.

The problem must be Hardware or a Cable fault. I cannot mount as a Mass Storage Device either.

When you plugged it in did it start to install drivers or just not recognise at all? might pay to try a different cable.
