ArtooDetoo: Are you talking about the internal SD or the external SD? Backing up to somewhere you're about to flash doesn't seem very safe. SIM is fine because it won't be touched, nor will the external SD. Especially since you can remove them... :-) I thought it was the external SD card (well there were no other choices given) but clearly it wasn't since the card had no data on it! You live and learn I guess. ArtooDetoo: Vivasanti: Fair call, i did a complete wipe also :) Might give it another go, maybe flash JVQ :D JPY has been a standout for me, being the longest running ROM I've used. Radios, GPS and battery were exemplary. But GB does more, speeds up a lot of stuff including the UI, and is such a nice experience that I've chosen to forgo the advantages that JPY delivered. Persevere with JVP (or JVQ if you prefer) and you'll enjoy the rewards. And don't, whatever you do, restore app data. That has caused me much grief in the past. Not saying that everybody will experience grief if they do restore data, but I surely can't recommend the practice. Edit: Typos, as usual Thanks guys! Will start with 2.3.4, and if that doesn't work out too well will switch to 2.3.3 Expect some questions re: flashing details in the next couple of days.

Hi Team I own a SGS i9000T that I have been aiming to upgrade for a while. After reading through hundreds of posts around various places I foolishly tried an upgrade to 2.3.4 via a link on androidadvices.com. Needless to say it failed - the phone would boot but would vibrate away merrily once or twice and dump lots of crash errors to the screen. I then found darky's v9.2 recovery rom (using ODIN), ODIN tells me it was all successful but all I am able to get the phone to do now is some weird voice talking to me when the SGS logo (blackscreen) comes up and the phone just sits there with the SGS logo on it.... I've left it for over an hour and still nothing! (weeps) To summarise current situation: 1. Phone sits in (idle) with just the Galaxy S GT-i9000 (note this is an i9000T) boot screen 2. I am unable to get into recovery mode 3. I can get into download mode I think what I am after is an ODIN method to get my phone back to working order - I am calling out to the collective wisdom of you all! I'v read 33 odd pages of posts here and have blistered my mouse thumb reading hundreds of others - and still can't get it to work :( Is there a method for dummies as it seems I need it.... Many thanks in advance

Download the I9000XXJVQ ## firmware from www.samfirmware.com (you'll need to register), and flash via Odin (I'd suggest you use a .pit file, and select repartition). This should give you stock 2.3.4. Life is mostly froth and bubble, two things stand like stone - kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own. SGSIII ROM: WanamLite v1.3 Kernel: Ninphetamine v1.1.0 Modem: DXLEA SGSII (Now belongs to SWMBO) ROM: WanamLite v12 Kernel: Siyah v3.3.2 Modem: BVLPB SGS (Cat's chew toy) If you need a download-mode jig ASAP, you're welcome to borrow mine! Works with SGS I/II/III. I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

Yes you will need to repartition with odin. You should always repartition when changing the base firmware of your phone

Well - ODIN tells me it all went ok, except now the phone just keeps replaying the Samsung animation continuously... have I missed a step?

Hope this helps , re firmware upgrade http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-to-gingerbread-xxjvo-2-3-3-firmware/4/ There is 5 pages in the is article and it lays it all out in a simple maner and worked fo me , thursdas I BRICK my phone (I didnt read all 5 pages ) I used Odin and repartioned with the PIT only DUD !. Then used Odin seeded with all the files need as per the article above. NB: Take a note of your APN setting first , you will need to feed those back in. I'm running 2-3-3 , 4 days now and all is ok. Good luck

you need a .pit file, i recomment the 512 one not the 803. You also need a .pda, .phone and .csc file. these three should be in a self extracting file when you download the stock firmware. I suggest looking on XDA (website/forum) at the i9000 section, they have every stock rom and plenty of guides, as well as all the 3rd party roms. If you need a hand, PM me for my msn, I have reflashed and fixed my phone more times than i remember

If you follow this link http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-to-gingerbread-xxjvo-2-3-3-firmware/4 there is a link to download a single file that has all 5 component files you will need and the Odin loader , the compress file is passworded but just read the details in the URL and it give the password. I found this very simple , note this is all a bit new for me so as DUMMY it was easy to follow

(and I'll be sure to share the solution if/when we discover what it is) Yes, I think the re-partition is important, because I suspect (based on the voices you heard at boot) that you’ve flashed a kernel with the Voodoo lagfix, which has converted your filesystem to EXT4 – the problem with this is that stock kernels can’t read EXT4, and are expecting to see RFS; without a re-partition, you’ll probably never get out of the bootloop. As HiTM4N suggests, go for a 512 repartition file, and make sure you use a recent version of Odin (1.7 or higher). The safest option is: - Reboot your PC (ake sure Kies is disabled on boot, or disable the processes when you reboot) - Put your phone into download mode - Start Odin - Load the .pit file in to the PIT section, the PDA .tar into the PDA section, the MODEM.tar into the Phone section and CSC into the CSC section (If there’s only one .tar file, load it into the PDA section) - Make sure re-partition is ticked (Auto reboot and F. Reset time should be ticked by default) - Plug your phone into the PC and wait for the COM indicator to go yellow - Click Start and once the COM indicator has gone green, the phone should restart There will be a delay at the flashing S screen, which is normal for a first boot. XXVJQ firmware with re-partitioning is still looping, but atleast we have a recovery menu now too, have flashed with semaphore kernel and am about to flash to Juwe 5.1 to see if that will make it go or if the phone is stuffed
