Shrapnel: +1 to this. Been using MIUI for a solid 6 months, it has improved a lot. Gives CM7 a run for its money speed wise. Only two things I miss are the TV out and and video auto focus not that I really need or use either

Which version of MIUI are you using?  Current favourite is the slightly modified Mint Berry Edition from XDA. Based off the MIUI Android releases.

Yeah, same with me. Very nice and speedy rom.

Hi there, it's been a while since I popped in here.  My SGS is now my hubby's phone.  He's just swapped to XT Telecom today and he can't get connected to Telecom. It doesn't show as a Network service.  I've put his SIM into my phone (SGS2) and get all his text messages coming in.

The SGS is on CM7, I'm not sure what version of it since he's still on the phone to Telecom and using his phone.

Is there a particular modem that I need to flash to get XT to work?  Thanks for your help.

vodafone/2degrees SGS and telecom SGS have 2 different hardware radios in them.

the vodafone version runs 900mhz GSM and HSPA, this is the regular i9000. this works using 2G GSM for voice and sms, and 3G for data.

the telecom version runs 850mhz WCDMA and is known as the i9000T or i9000M. Telecom runs full 3G all the time for voice, sms and data - so 2G bands are irrelevant unfortunately.

if you just took a regular i9000 and put an XT sim in it, it will never work properly on XT regardless of what modem you flash, because the hardware radio inside it is wrong. the phone will appear to work in the major cities because XT uses 2100mhz as a backfill/overflow network, but anywhere else in the country and you will get nothing.

the SGSII has quadband 3g radios onboard, meaning it operates on both 900 and 850 frequencies, so it will work flawlessly on both voda and XT sims without drama. the original SGS only had tri-band 3G (like 98% of phones out there) so it only EITHER runs 900mhz radios, or 850mhz radios, but not both together)

was your original SGS a specific i9000T or i9000M, Neets?

While on the phone he got me to change it to WCDMA only and it still wouldn't work :(

sounds like its a regular i9000, meaning it has no hope of working reliably on XT. sorry to say.

I see in your sig its an Optus phone. Telstra handsets are the only 850MHz compatible ones sold in Aus.

thanks again for your help, seems like I just made a rookie mistake and didn't even consider the band.  My hubby isn't too happy because I'm meant to be smarter than that ;-)  Off to find a better plan, probably with Vodafone over 2degrees due to data bundles.

Vivasanti: Flash Darkys 10.2.2 i was on that with no problems, the phone was great to use, then just flash that modem file i mentioned

Hi; sorry to be a bit of a pain, but now I've got an issue with Darky's 10.2.2 and BUJV3...

Everything SEEMS to work fine; but I've received two phone calls now after installing this combo, and each time I got a strange "stuck" notification after the call.  Hopefully you can see what I mean in these images:

It's the icon which looks like a SimCard and an overlaid gear.  It goes away if I reboot the phone.

I've no idea what this means, or what it's trying to tell me?

any bright ideas?

Ta!

A little further investigation shows that this issue starts as soon as Darky's 10.2 goes on; and therefore isn't related to the 10.2.2 or BUJV3.

That didn't actually help that much, though!

Petty sure that issue is related to your phone number not being the number that's coded into the Sim card. it used to bug the hell out of me when I was on Samsung ROMs, but since moving to miui I don't get that anymore.

Read that a work around is to put the Sim into an old phone that can set it's own number, I think you can do it on iPhone's too.

Have a look on the market, there may be an app that can do this now. another work around is to freeze stk (Sim tool kit) with the likes of titanium -that is the stk icon.

Yes, that did it!

Thanks very much for the advice!

HMmmm.

This thread has been a HUGE help!
I've been wondering why my Telecom SGS has been having crap reception with a Vodafone SIM....

Anyone want to swap a Telecom SGS running Darky's 10.2 Resurrection with BUJV3 modem for the Vodafone equivalent?

Hi

I am thinking of selling my Telecom XT SGS and upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus.
I currently run Darky's Rom 10.2.2 , 2.3.4 and JL2 modem for 850MHz.

If I wanted to downgrade this to stock how would I go about it?

I did download what I think is the Froyo TNZ rom from XDA, but going from gingerbread back to froyo would this be tricky? Or just Odin the Froyo firmware with re-partition?

Is there gingerbread stock Telecom rom for SGS i9000T?

I recently used Fus Downloader  (V 2.1 exe) to get the official TNZ Rom for the i9000T. Just download the file and flash via Odin. Works like a dream. Just remember to remove any lagfixes etc just incase.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it is a GB ROM.
