Opened up a junk mailer today to see First Mobile advertising the Galaxy S with some plans.
$999 for the handset outright.

Their website is borked though. I'm getting some type of Flash script error on anything other than the homepage.

The one I got from mobicity included an adapter for the european charger and a new zealand usb based charger. Don't know if this helps.

Just some questions regarding the official firmware update via kies.

- Should I backup my phone prior to updating kies? ; if so what program should i use to backup (my phone is currently unrooted)

- If I root my phone, will it effect the abillity to do official updates directly from samsung?

Thanks
Kiwi

Nope, I can't get beyond the first page, but that might be a problem on my end.

Nope, at least didn't stop me upgrading from JF3 to JM1 via Kies, JF3 was rooted and had lagfix (which I forgot to undo but didn't seem to break anything apart from leaving an unused 1G file on my internal SD).

When I went to the website I got a message about a problem with a video it was trying to load and something about Adobe Flash 10.

I couldn't find the phone on their website either.  Had no problem moving between their pages though.

My phone is being shipped from Australia today. I hope it arrives tomorrow, there's a good chance :-)

Seems like US sales are going good

So Korean + US sales have both each topped 2 million + worldwide sales figures, looking nearer to 3 mill now, not bad!

I've upgraded to the beta version of Froyo available on Kies. It seems sweet. Flash slows the browser down a little, but other than that, looks good.

Yes, it's listed, and that it's out of stock.  I didn't see the $699 deal.

My phone arrived today, so happy with it.  But I've lost the view of all my contacts that are on my SIM and I can't remember where that setting is.  Will keep fiddling, no doubt I'll find it ... somewhere.

Multimedia question if anyone knows,

What would be best connection to use to get the Galaxy connected to a stereo and still have the function to control the songs etc.

I used the 3.5mm jack to A left right cables into the stereo but the sound volume is limited and quality not that great.

The stereo has usb port, and mic, etc. Trying to think best way to connect it, other than the left right audio cables in.

Tried using my usb cable that came with it but of course it doesn't recognize it connected.

I've been showing this phone to friends, including those who already own iPhone's. The general consensus is they want one!

Once I show them the better screen size, the swype keyboard, the gmail and contacts integration, the android notifications and the android widgets, they are pretty much sold.

It took a few weeks to "re-educate" myself away from my old iPhone (guess I just had to "think different").. initially I wasn't so thrilled with the Galaxy S, but after using it for a few weeks now, I don't think I could easily switch back to the iPhone.

One thing I have noticed, I get a lot more work done on this phone. On the iphone, I tended to read emails but not reply until I got back to a computer. The Samsung, I just swype away and can write a pretty detailed email quickly.

I might have to buy a second battery though. I find the standby performance is good but now that I'm hitting the phone harder with email, internet, twitter, facebook etc I can burn through the battery. I'm not sure if it differs much from the iphone though, I probably didn't use the iphone as effectively.

If Google could just fix the Android market, so that it was as effective as the iPhone App Store and inclusive for all developers globally (to sell apps easily), then it'd probably entice many more developers to switch.

Volume limited? Use the 3.5mm -> RCA cables you were using, then you have to have the sound control on the galaxy S turned to max and then control the volume with the stereo sound, if you haven't already tried that, then the sound should be better.

Yea that's what I tried, It didn't seem to matter how high the volume was set it just maxed out pretty low. Compared to a normal mp3 player connected to it.

I even went to the settings menu where the media & music seperate volume control is and set that to max, it's a lot louder on my phone but makes no difference through the 3.5mm > RCA cable.
