You should be able to download Firmware updates via Kies without having the latest version.

Wipeout: Do I need the latest Kies update to get Froyo tho? Can I not download it from Samsung directly when it comes out?

Not from Samsung, the only firmware distribution channel for them is Kies and over-the-air updates from telcos as far as I know. There will be downloadable firmware and custom firmware from various sites I'm sure, but probably not the official Vodafone NZ version.

Only odd thing I've come across is my file structure seems to have duplicated into a top level folder /mtp. I can't figure out why and not sure whether to delete it. How can I check it doesn't contain anything different (easily).

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but another tool to help find Android Apps that might suit you. This from Mashable: http://mashable.com/2010/09/29/app-esp/

Quick post to say that I'm loving JPK firmware, posting this now from my GS via TV-Out using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (which are not supported in non-2.2 firmwares). Lovely browsing experience while my partner monopolizes my laptop tonight!

I've sent a couple of replies successfully to this forum on my phone. But it didn't quite work how I expected. When you're typing (swyping) in the Quick Reply, I just don't know how to get rid of the keyboard. I find myself stuck and unable to scroll the page to see the Post Quick Reply button. I need to get rid of the k/b. I fluked it, and can't remember what I did.

Does anyone know how to get the k/b to disappear? I tried the SYB button and got the keyboard options. Just can't seem to figure it out.

I also noticed that when I reply using my phone it changes my flag to the American Flag. I'm a very proud Kiwi Geekzone, I'd really appreciate it if my country flag didn't change.

One of the nice things I've noticed about being on JPK is that I no longer have to switch from LauncherPro to TouchWiz in order to get the PC to recognise the phone (and to start Kies). Having to clear LauncherPro as the default was a pain. But that's no longer needed.

Just make sure your'e on the home screen first, then plug in the cable and you're all good.

Loving the Chrome2Phone (or Fox2Phone - using both actually). How cool is that! The only thing is it's not very instant. I highlighted a phone number and then pressed the phone icon to send it to the phone and it easily took about 3 minutes before my dialer was launched. Same sort of delays for URL's and Maps. But still, it's way cool.

Right, just checking the back button.
Also on a negative note, wifi isn't as good on JPK. Its dropped out twice now when I'm at the other end of the house to where the router is.

Thanks, that works :)

I can't reply to a "quote" on the phone.  Very odd. It shows the usual page for replying to a quote, but I can't get a cursor to be able to type.  Never get the keyboard.

Also, for anyone else, when you look at the Geekzone website from your phone, do you get a mobile page?  I thought there was one, but I always get the full monty.

NZtechfreak: WiFi seems much the same for me on JPK.

At the other end of the house the Wifi was never strong, I only ever had the dot of the Wifi symbol lit, but now on JPK it has dropped out twice.  When it tells me there's a Wifi available it shows the signal strength as (hmmm, not sure now - but not weak).  I have to manually "connect" pressing the Connect button.
