I'm not using widget locker, but I've read the widget locker runs in conjunction with the samsung lockscreen, ie. it doesn't disable the default lock screen. So if you don't run No Lock you will end up with 2x lockscreens active on your phone.

I had the original lockscreen popping up when I'd open shortcuts in Widgetlocker, No Lock removed all such unfavorable interactions.

Ahhh, got it!  I hadn't realised WidgetLocker created a lock screen, I assumed it used the Samsung lock screen.

Thank you both for your replies.

Widget locker just makes the phone UI that much better, in addition to having a slider to unlock the phone (I have the Sense-UI styled one, but iPhone style, stock Android style etc are available), I also have a slider to open the camera and one to open contacts, makes it that much faster to launch things like the camera, while also preventing your homescreen from being too cluttered.

So it's been nearly a month since I got my Galaxy.

I want to hear your feedback on few things please.

What's your opinion on advanced task killer/management apps? Do you use one or not? If you do, which one do you use? I read XDA forums and it seems like a lot of conflicting info is around. Some say to use, some say don't. I have downloaded one from Market and it improved my battery life dramatically. In saying that, every time I kill some apps, they return about 15 minutes later... I am aware of the fact that task killers aren't needed for the new Froyo 2.2 version of the software (from what I read anyway).

Second thing is the camera. For some reason some of the photos take come out in three pieces, like the photo is divided on the equal three parts (see the attachment) . The weird thing is, this doesn't happen to every image I take. In addition to this, some images I take show up with an error (a broken image on the black background), so it's like the phone failed to take said image.

The third thing is my stock software. I'm running Eclair.SRJH1. Is this the latest version of the official firmware? When I connect my phone to Kies, it tells me that I'm using the latest version of firmware. But on the XDA forums they were mentioning other software numbers for the 2.1. Any ideas on this?

Fourth, what everyone is using for their music player? The stock standard media player seems ok, but it sounds very weak (especially on mid and bass). I'm using very good pair of headphones too...

That's it for now. hehe.. Thank you. :>

Edit: It doesn't seem I can upload the image of the camera error for some reason....

The sound quality is amazing with headphones, if it isn't its because you're still on an old firmware where the headphone quality isn't fixed (for some reason early ones had perfect line-out quality, but the headphone quality was reduced). Thats fixed in later firmwares, but there is also a work around (check out audiobooster in the XDA GS forums).

No task killer here, Android doesn't need them.

Your camera problems sounds strange indeed.

To be honest if I were you I'd flash to a more recent firmware to fix the camera, and the music player, since these seem to be your primary problems with the device.

I'm hesitant flashing my phone because it's only a month old. I understand that if I flash it, my warranty will not longer apply for this device. Am I wrong about this?

Try this link and see if it works for you. It's a link to the image on my Facebook page... http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs779.snc4/65944_10150094720209951_698649950_7278916_3487948_n.jpg

Since going to JPK I've not used ATK, but I had when on 2.1.  Not sure if I could put hand on heart and say it made any improvement.

My battery life is significantly improved on JPK.

I use Meridian (someone here had a post of their favourite apps and on the basis of that I added the app) as my music player.  It'll also play videos too.

I like it.  Sound quality is very nice.  Usually use headphones unless watching a movie in bed and then I listen without headphones.  Definite difference but it's not too bad.  I don't think I've damaged my ear drums, still like to think I've got almost near perfect hearing.

I've never had a problem with my camera and have never seen anything like your photo.  Can't offer any help or ideas on that one.

From what I've read, flashing to an unofficial firmware does void your warranty, but you can always flash back to the original firmware and no one will know.  I figured since my phone is from Australia, chances of me sending it back were slim.  I had less to lose.

Ouch, that's very wrong. I would send it back rather than reflash.

I won't flash it. I'm not about to return it either. I'm hoping with Froyo update all these issues would go away. The thing with camera is not consistent, so this happens every so often, which is even more stranger if for example this was a regular thing.  :>

Thanks for the feedback guys.

That image looks like a panorama with an odd piece stitched into the middle, or one of the other 'comic' type phone effects. I'd take a look in settings and see what shoot mode its set to, but if it looks correct there, and this keeps happening, then I think your options are flash or return under warranty.

See this is what I also thought, ie must be some sort of affect is being applied. Checked all the settings and they look normal. Plus this only happens to some images and it doesn't to other. Also it doesn't explain why some images I take come up in gallery only as a black screen with a broken picture image on it. I would say it is a hardware/camera software issue. I will see how it goes after Froyo update and if it still happening, I will return it. :>

1. Doesn't seem to be needed if using lag fix.  Helps if on 2.1 and not runing lagfix. People suggest advanced task killer if not rooted, or auto killer if rooted. I didn't notice any battery life improvement, but i imagine it would improve battery life if you were running a lot of un-necessary software eg. a lot of widgets, especially ones that are not actually on your home screen, but are still updating/synching in the background.

2. Never seen that error before, if it doesn't go away with a clean restore/new flash then you might want to consider returning it.

3. i have JH3 running (phone came with this firmware), I would hold off flashing as official froyo doesn't seem very far away

4. Default music player.  Double twist is also supposed to be good.  There is supposed to be a bug with headphone quality that can be fixed with a patch on xda, not sure if patch has made it into official firmwares, but as your on JH1 I think your phone is definitely affected by the lower quality bug.

Cheers man. I really hope this camera issue isn't serious enough for me to be returning the phone... :( I'm hoping it will go away. *sigh* Bring on the Froyo I say. heh
