Hi All

I’m looking at getting either the new iphone 4 or the HTC Desire, I currently have a iphone 3g and am veering more towards the Desire for many reasons including the more "open source" nature of the phone.. anyway

I’m wanting to hear from folks out there that may have a (HTC) Desire and how they have found the screen.
Reason I ask is I have read the specs for the iphone 4 and the screen specs sound pretty impressive, but the screen that the Desire has also has its own Pro's including being slightly bigger.

Few points I would like to know is;

- Is the Desires screen still easily viewable in sunlight?
- Is it quiet bright, I hate looking at dim screens?
- Does it have the anti smudge coating that the 3Gs has or similar?
- Does it have one or two speakers?

Can anyone throw their thoughts my way?

Would really appreciate any help/feedback on your experiences.

Samsung Galaxy S - Android and a screen to rival iPhone 4 - waiting for mine now but its almost universally considered the best screen so far (iPhone 4 possibly excepted) and better than the Desire.

Samsung Note20 Ultra, on 2degrees

Not in direct sunlight, known downfall of AMOLED screens.

Indoors its plenty bright, don't think you'd have cause for complaint there.

Not that I'm aware of.

One speaker.

As suggested above I'd recommend taking a look at the Galaxy S - I had one but had to return it for out of the box problems, waiting for replacement unit in the next day or two - its Super AMOLED screen is truly excellent. Other advantage over the Desire is true multitouch, versus the Desire's dual-touch, which can lose accuracy when detecting multiple touches (although outside of gaming it not really an issue). If you're after an Android handset and the screen is very important you can't do better than this currently.

Hmmm i hadnt seen the Samsung phone, but after doing a few quick searches there are complaints of the Samsung influenced Android o/s.

Any comments on how you found it ?

The latest iteration is pretty good actually, but you can always replace it with a launcher replacement like LauncherPro, ADW Launcher, Zeam etc.

Something else that may be worth bearing in mind is that Samsung's flavour of imap does not talk to Google (Gmail) very well at all. If you don't use Gmail or don't want to use imap to synch emails it's no problem, but if you do you're either not going to be able to implement it or it's going to be very unreliable.

I do use gmail (as well as various other) i was hoping to prehaps take advantage of the multiple email account (on one app) feature it has, what doesnt work with gmail ? or is it just unreliable ?

Mine was working fine by inbuilt gmail sync, and gmail sync via exchange.

I've not had any experience (Galaxy Spica) or seen any reports of that - do you have a reference?
