onions: the official Froyo update just came out for the galaxy i5503t if anyone cares :) You gotta update kies first (kies improves a whole heap after the update) Hopefully no more phone comas. Thanks for the heads-up on this. A note on the updating of Kies to allow the upgrade to 2.2: in my case, having Kies checking whether an update was available came up with nothing as it said it was the current version; this was despite it also saying I needed to update Kies to allow the firmware update! I simply downloaded the most recent version of Kies manually and installed that, and the upgrade to 2.2 went totally smoothly. Great not having to reinstall anything - that said, considering I want to move apps onto the SD card I guess I'll have to reinstall many anyway!

This is good to hear. Not sure whether I'll install the official one or keep the "other" one. It'll be good to know what people's experiences are with the official one i.e. if there are still problems, if it sorts everything and a little more. Would be also cool to hear the comparison between the official and the "other" one. I kinda want to go back to the official one just to keep everything all kosher. If you wanted to go to the official one and had the "other" one, is it simply a case of getting Kies to do everything or do we have to do something else?

If you're on one of the beta 2.2 roms you'll need to re-flash the original TNZ 2.1 firmware before Kies will recognise that there is a new rom for you - check www.samfirmware.com to see if there is a copy of the rom there.

Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

haha I just looked as well. I suppose the other one is if some bright spark got the official TNZ 2.2 version and we just use Odin to put it on. I would imagine that Kies would pick up any future official versions after that. Now, the kicker is finding ANY TNZ versions

Now, the kicker is finding ANY TNZ versions Yep that should work, PM the developer of the rom on XDA and see if they have instructions on how to make a backup of the rom. (I don't have my galaxy 5 anymore so I'm not much help sorry)

I am having compass calibration problems, apparently something to do with the below: "it creates a compass calibration owned by system user that cannot be written by the compass app. owner, resulting in calibration silently failing when compass is closed." http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10208929 Could be a problem with what most people are having with the roms they used. Should a hard reset fix it?

I am still on 2.1 and don't want to upgrade if there are problems, because 2.1 is pretty sweet really. Would be interested if others are having similar issues.

has anyone managed to get the official telecom 2.2 in tar format yet? Just wondering because I'm about to sell my wifes old i5503t and really want it closer to stock :) Have a new Galaxy S 2 in the family now and the wifes got my old Galaxy S :) I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

onions: I am having compass calibration problems, apparently something to do with the below: I'm having the same issue since upgrading to 2.2 - when opening the compass app, it has no idea as to the correct direction! I'm surprised that an official final release has this issue - would have thought this would have been sorted out prior. Also, I'm finding the phone is (sometimes?) operating slower than it did with 2.1, eg delays so long that I've wondered if I've pressed a command at all. That said, it's nice to have most of my apps off the phone's memory - my son can finally have his Talking Tomcat and Robot back!

Forgot to mention the other big bonus to the upgrade is that my wifi connects basically instantly upon pressing the shortcut, whereas before I had to go to the wifi settings menu to have any chance of connecting.

Nup, a hard reset hasn't resolve the compass problem. But in terms of how it affects applications, gps navigation it's all working fine, but stuff like skymaps/ compass apps are not working well. Also re: hard reset....If you save apps with astro file manager or something similar before a hard reset, the restored apk will no longer be updated after the hard reset :( It seems to me that things are slower on the phone in general if you have live wallpaper or internal storage on the phone is pretty full. I;ve noticed that if internal storage is to the brim the phone tends to coma if that is the case on 2.1 Little things i have noticed with froyo -exchange/gmail apps & calandar are much improved :) -wifi hotspot -pretty cool when your gf has an ipod touch and both of you are surfing the net :) -volume used to go to silent, then vibrate as you reduce the volume on eclair, on froyo it just goes to vibrate(or silent depending on what you set in the options) :( - no widget for the stock music player :( overall thing feel zippier also..just quietly, I noticed that this phone is compatible with universal androot now
