"The company's Estonian office has just confirmed through their Facebook page that the two CPU cores will be running at 1.2 GHz, rather than the previously announced 1GHz. That update brings the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II to the top of the Cortex-A9 class, in pure computing power, at least."

This phone just keeps getting better by the day. Well worth the wait imo.

Dual core, so would that not be 2 x 2oomhz gained or do I really not understand how DC processors work....probably the latter.

Nice phone but could they make it look any more like an iPhone4

Sadly I can't justify upgrading from my HTC Desire any time soon, there really isn't anything about it that I wish was better and no more I really need it to do.
I will most likely get the Harvey Norman A500 tab so that is my Android budget blown right there.

That's right 1.2ghz x 2

But don't you mean could they make it look anymore like the Evo 4g?  which came out before the iPhone 4, which then the iPhone 4 must have copied?  Since they are all square phones with buttons on them :)

And I guess that copied the Nokia N97 since it looks sort of like that, as did the Nexus S?

I am already keen on the phone really, a nice upgrade, would get it anyway even if they left the spec as it is.

I'll let you have the Evo 4g to a degree but not the N97, the N97 has a bowed bottom edge and a slide out keyboard.

By looking like the iPhone 4, I mean the complete one piece plastic fascia framed by a thin metal trim with very straight edges with small curved corners.

Mobicity.co.nz have updated their website to reflect the new processor (in the product overview) but still have the old processor in the specs. They've also changed their screen specs to either Super AMOLED+ or Super LCD (to be confirmed prior to shipment).
I really hope it stays with the good screen as I've already had one on pre-order for three weeks, otherwise I'll have to cancel and order from Clove instead.

They have not changed the shipping date (yet) it's still May 1.

Pre-ordered mine from mobicity yesterday. They estimated I'd have it in hand on May 4th, here's hoping!

Got this email from Clove this morning:

You recently requested to be notified about the availability of the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone. We are contacting you today to confirm the current situation with this soon to be released device.

There have been a lot of rumours on the internet regarding the release date and specification of the unit. Having spoken to Samsung UK we can confirm the following:

- UK stock is expected to be launched and made available for sale from the 1st May.

- As the 1st of May is a Sunday and the 2nd May is a UK holiday, we expect the dispatch of orders to commence on Tuesday 3rd May.

- The Galaxy S II will be available as a 16GB model.

- It will have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (as opposed to the previously advertised 1GHz).

- The processor chip type is to be confirmed, but we expect it to be an Exynos chip

- We expect the screen type to be Super AMOLED Plus

The price is due to remain at the current GBP 440 pounds + shipping costs + VAT (if applicable). However, please be aware that Samsung might still change the price and/or release date. All customers who have placed an order will receive an email form us approximately one week before release of the device to confirm the price, specification and shipping date.

Here at Clove we plan to have sufficient stock to cover all orders and hopefully be in an 'in stock' situation upon the day of release. Having said this, the demand for the Galaxy S II is higher than we have seen for any other smartphone, so we do recommend that you place an order as soon as possible. Please remember that you are entitled to cancel your order at any point up to dispatch.

We trust that you find this information useful and that it clarifies any rumour that has been circulating.

Should you wish to find out any more information on the Galaxy S II or wish to order one now, you can do so by clicking the link below or copying it into your web browser:

We look forward to receiving an order from you.

Still think it's WAY over priced.

WIll wait to see what HTC do with the Sensation.

Still have the best UI on any phone and the most solid of andriod phones in terms of reliability.

I asked Clove about the 900/2100 UMTS/HSPA frequencies (phone was supposed to be quad band) and received this response:

Hello Lee thank you for the enquiry.

We are receiving this question from a number of our customers. We are aware that the official microsite for the Galaxy S 2 displays the quad-band frequencies that suggest compatibility with AT&T and other non European networks. However from experience we have seen that many devices get optimized for Europe upon release with only 900 / 2100 frequencies available.

For this reason we have chosen to err on the side of caution and advertise 900 / 2100. Rest assured we will receive the same stock as any other UK retailer and if the device does turn out to be quad-band then we will make this information available on our website and blog as soon as possible

Regards

Sales Team

In case anyone missed my thread on the SGSII - I will be doing a review for the Clove Blog when I get mine. If you have questions feel free to ask me, I will have a post after the review to try and answer any questions people have that are not covered in the main body.
