Good morning all. Well I finally purchased my first Android. It's a Samsung Galaxy 5503. Now I am a total noob as far as all this smart phone Android rom and rooting thing goes so please bear with me while I learn from you guys Embarassed . I have quite a few questions so I will start with the basics. I get the impression that with a smart phone you need an "app" to do anything with it's basic functionality. I ask this because I was trying to change font size etc and could find nothing in the phones settings to do this. Is this correct? My second question is this.Do I need to install a browser app to access the internet on my phone? My old handset (I should mention here that I'm an xt user) had the T World shortcut that took me straight to Telecoms home page where I could see my plan, account balance etc. However when I access it with my Samsung  and try to download my favorite ring tone I get a message that says my handset is not compatible.I'm very happy with my phone. An I Phone was just way out of my price range. I hope I haven't posted in the wrong part of the forum and apologize in advance if this is the case.

A good place to start would be the manual - it will tell you where to find the basic applications. There will be a web browser already installed - there should be an icon for applications somewhere there.
