That XDA article I posted is about a runaway Android OS Process using up a huge amount of battery and affects a lot of people with different setups - no one has been able to pinpoint the culprit although there has been some suspicion cast on Samsung's built in Mobile Tracker and Software Update. DocRambone (creator of romkitchen.org) has had Android OS Process kill his battery in 6hrs.

I've had not battery problems, nor heat problems, not sure what that means (usually about half the problems users report at XDA are of the PEBKAC-type, so neither proble are likely to be as bad as they seem).

Same here, no problems with runaway processes, battery or overheating. My only problem so far is dodgy wifi.

Samsung have already released two updates for the phone

Ditto, no problems with the battery ...

Although, as I am playing with it a lot it's going down faster than it normally would, have to get it customized correctly !!

Lokhor is probably an upset Iphone user (after stumping up $500-$600 more than he needs to) to get all the features we are seeing.
My phone works just fine, battery lasts as I would expect and it never even gets slightly warm.

He is a perveyor of FUD.

Nothing could be further from the truth robinlilac. He's reporting what he's seeing reported elsewhere and asking the locals if they're seeing the same thing.

Thanks ArtooDetoo. I'm an SGS User who is looking forward to (eventually) upgrading to the SGS2. I'm pretty active on XDA so saw the posts from DocRambone and thought it relevant to report them. Obviously not everyone is having problems, however some people are and I'm sure with the rate Geekzoners pick up new gadgets there will be people here who have issues eventually.

Maybe you should have a look through these forums before making uninformed statements like this.

I think the correct response would have been "Oops... my bad. Apologies Lokhor. Went off half cocked there." or something similar.

Since you seem to have missed it, Lokhor started the biggest thread Geekzone has ever seen, something chock-full of good info and a must read for anybody with any interest in the original SGS. Hardly the work of a "perveyor[sic] of FUD".

And you might do well to remember that everybody was a "want to get one" before they got one, yourself included. There are few, if any, fanboys around here of any stripe, and I'm happy that's the case. I hope it stays that way.

Once more with feeling?  Undecided

We're not overly sensitive, but there's a core bunch of users contributing to the SGS thread, and many of us have been through trouser-soiling moments with our phones (before the masses got onboard and documented anything & everything) and have relied on the help of people like Lokhor to get things working.

Most of us will move to the SGS2 in the future, so it would behove you to be constructive in what you post, as you may need someone's help one day.

Glad to hear you have an SGS2 and it's working great though!

Life is mostly froth and bubble, two things stand like stone - kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own.

Back on topic :D

I've had excessive battery drain (Android OS using a large % of battery) and have tried a few things, will let you know if I notice a difference over the next few days.

This is my first android phone (from an iPhone 4) - How exactly do I update the phone? I go to Settings > About phone > Software Update > Check for Updates but then it just says Samsung Account already added in account manager. What next? Do I have to do it via Kies? If so, how do I do it.

Thanks :)

K1000716: My only problem so far is dodgy wifi.

I've noticed that my WiFi performance has dropped since the firmware update. I occasionally have to turn WiFi off and on again for it to work. The router is only 6 or 7 metres away and only has to go through 1 wall, so I should be getting a decent signal.

Hopefully Samsung address this soon.
