nofam:
jeffnz: anyone using KH3 modem and had any issues, still on KG6 as it works well but hesitant to flash new one.

Yes I know I can go back but just plain lazy

I'm on Cognition 1.5, which is KH3-based.  The modem seems as good as the KG5 that I was running previously (which is actually newer than the KG6 you're running).

Thanks yes I had seen that on here or XDA about KG5 but wanted to see others thoughts .

thanks for input

I have just flashed to Cognition 1.5 based on XXKH3 but some of the stock apps I normally use and find useful were removed from the ROM, such as the stock task manager widget (task manager app is still there), and also the stock weather & news widget.

Can anyone tell me where I might find those apks?

Hey guys

Need some help again, trying to flash a new ROM on the SGS2. Everything goes fine phone says USB MTP initialised and I can see the contents of the phone. But Kies and Odin refuse to detect the phone whatsoever.

Have tried uninstalling / reinstalling kies and phone drivers, multiple reboots done still the same. I am sure this is something small thats gone wrong but what could it be?

Earlier a screen would come on saying Kies is connected and then pressing the home button on the phone would make the phone disappear from Kies. Now that screen does not come up any more.

Tried USB debugging mode on/off, no use.

Any help would be appreciated! :) Thanks

wow cognition 1.5 vs stock is like windows 7 to windows vista! no factory reset nothing - just install over preexisting stuff! easy as ABC!

can anyone tell me if i need to install a separate program to underclock (ie is underclock when idle built into cognition 1.5)? i am using "no frills CPU control"

Brendan: You should read my FAQ in the link below, the sections about flashing your phone.

Putting the phone into download mode would help wouldn't it? lol So yeah, that being done, everything went on smoothly. Went from Litening 2.2 to 6.1 and many issues seem to be ironed out by now. Its great to see I did not have to do anything no wipes whatsoever.

Still dont get the point as to what the ninpo kernel would do for me as I am not in to undervolting/overclocking or BLN at this stage. What are the benifits in this case? went through hacre's post on XDA for his kernel but still am in some doubt.

Going good so far though... :)

Very little in that case. Some of the better kernels are just more efficient, meaning you will get better battery life. That's got to be worth it.

You are not required to use any overclocking or under volting features if they exist.

I suggest you try each kernel for a week and decide which you like best.

I am currently running a modified version of speedmod kernel, that has overclocking and bln. Smooth... I went for 9 hours and used about 4% battery.

Often a kernel will not show it's true battery use until it's been in the phone for some time - like a week or more.

The Coginition S2 thread used to have links to CWM update.zips that would put the widgets back on the system. It appears that those links have gone, most likely because they haven't been updated since v1.1 of the ROM.

I've decided to create my own copies of these files, and they can be downloaded from http://www.nzgeek.net/files/SGS2/. I haven't tested them, but they should work OK. If they don't, please let me know.

To install these files, download the appropriate zip and copy it to your phone. Using the CWM application on your phone (installed with Cognition S2 v1.5), select the Flash update option and locate the zip file. The phone should then reboot into CWM recovery mode, where the files will be installed. The apps/widgets should be available when the phone reboots.

Thank you nzgeek, that's awesome. I will give those a try and let you know how it goes.

M_I_C_H_A_E_L: NEW SGS2? 1.5GHZ Processor now, or im reading it wrong

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/28/galaxy-s-ii-lte-and-galaxy-tab-8-9-lte-announced-set-to-debut-a/

Faster CPU, 4.5" screen, and support for LTE (a new cellular standard that allows for 100Mbps downloads, 50Mbps uploads).

The only drawback to the new version is that it doesn't seem to support WCDMA (3G) on the 850MHz band, which means it's a no-go for XT customers.
