Yep, it looks like they ramped up the specs for the US launch.

However, compare it with the Nexus Prime, which is essentially the Galaxy i9250.

A screen resolution of 1280 x 720 - insane!

nzgeek: I've decided to create my own copies of these files, and they can be downloaded from http://www.nzgeek.net/files/SGS2/. I haven't tested them, but they should work OK. If they don't, please let me know.

It looks like I screwed up the widget packages. They're missing a folder that says what CWM should do with the update. I've just uploaded fixed copies now, so download them again if you've tried them and had problems.

mrgsm021: I have just flashed to Cognition 1.5 based on XXKH3 but some of the stock apps I normally use and find useful were removed from the ROM, such as the stock task manager widget (task manager app is still there), and also the stock weather & news widget.

Can anyone tell me where I might find those apks?

The Coginition S2 thread used to have links to CWM update.zips that would put the widgets back on the system. It appears that those links have gone, most likely because they haven't been updated since v1.1 of the ROM.

I've decided to create my own copies of these files, and they can be downloaded from http://www.nzgeek.net/files/SGS2/. I haven't tested them, but they should work OK. If they don't, please let me know.

To install these files, download the appropriate zip and copy it to your phone. Using the CWM application on your phone (installed with Cognition S2 v1.5), select the Flash update option and locate the zip file. The phone should then reboot into CWM recovery mode, where the files will be installed. The apps/widgets should be available when the phone reboots.

since i flashed cognition 1.5 i noticed that -

1) battery draining a lot faster (will drain it all and calibrate before making conclusions). might have to apply no frills CPU control to underclock when idle as CPU spy no longer works to tell me if it idling is built in

2) very responsive esp scrolling

3) samsung dive not working - can't track or control the phone, says "no mobile number registered because the SIM has been changed" (something along that line). i notice that "mobiletracker" and "wipeout receiver" are present but "imeitracker" is gone. anyone knows how i can get this back?  (and no, for some reason i didn't titanium back up although i do have a CWM backup but i can't access the IMG zip)

- Download CPU spy to check if the phone is idling, deep sleeping good when not in use.

- Most likely the samsung Dive package might be taken out by the cognition rom developer. Just ask him to give you a zip flashable package or search the xda thread to find it.

Brendan:
jpanwala: Hey guys

Need some help again, trying to flash a new ROM on the SGS2. Everything goes fine phone says USB MTP initialised and I can see the contents of the phone. But Kies and Odin refuse to detect the phone whatsoever.

Have tried uninstalling / reinstalling kies and phone drivers, multiple reboots done still the same. I am sure this is something small thats gone wrong but what could it be?

Earlier a screen would come on saying Kies is connected and then pressing the home button on the phone would make the phone disappear from Kies. Now that screen does not come up any more.

Tried USB debugging mode on/off, no use.

Any help would be appreciated! :) Thanks

You should read my FAQ in the link below, the sections about flashing your phone.

Hi Brendan read you link it is very well done and a great help for us noobs. Are you going to continue it on as keen to know what modems people are using.

Thank you nzgeek, that's awesome. I will give those a try and let you know how it goes.

Downloaded the zip file for all the widgets and installed the file via CWM, all working, although it didn't have the task manager widget as I expected, oh well, not the end of the world.

Thank you nzgeek once again.

Yes, i intend to do more work on it but time and health are an issue.

I would like to gather opinions on the best modem for New Zealand conditions, maybe broken down into two catagories: rural and urban.

My completely unscientific (well, slightly empirical) opinion is that XXKG5 was the kindest on battery life, whilst still giving reasonable wifi range, fast, solid GPS lock, and good call quality. . . . .Probably the closest to the 'Old Faithful' BUJP5 from the I9000.  This is on Vodafone.

The folder dropbox contains the content from your dropbox, however only for the files you have actually downloaded to your phone.

When you install the Dropbox app on your phone, it does not download all the files to your phone. Using the app you can tell it to though if you want.

Hi NZGEEK, was wondering if you could super help me (or anyone else please!) ... the flash to cognition has broken my "imeitracker" and now samsung dive can't track my phone ... are you able to provide me a backup for me to try to fix the app?

Many thanks

(brain failure i only backed up with CWM - can't access the IMG - and not the paid titanium backup silly me)

It appears that /system/app/IMEITracker.apk is needed for this to work. This was present in older firmwares, but it's definitely not in Cognition, either the base rom or the removed APKs.

So far I've downloaded one other KH3 rom (LeoMar75), and the removed apps from yet another (Touch X-Treme), and still no sign of the APK. I'm now downloading the full Touch X-Treme rom to see if the APK is in there, but I don't like the chances.

If anyone else is able to find a ROM that has /system/app/IMEITracker.apk in it, please let me know and I'll try to make a CWM-flashable zip for it.

FYI, Phandroid are reporting that Samsung are selling one SGS2 every 1.5 seconds and they are yet to release them into the US market.

Surely the stock XXKH3 from samfirmwares.com would have it?
