Awesome - great to have you here LL!  How long are you gonna leave your SGS2 stock, and which firmware/kernels are you eyeing up? Laughing

Life is mostly froth and bubble, two things stand like stone - kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own.

SGSIII
ROM: WanamLite v1.3    Kernel: Ninphetamine v1.1.0   Modem: DXLEA

SGSII (Now belongs to SWMBO)
ROM: WanamLite v12     Kernel: Siyah v3.3.2   Modem: BVLPB

SGS
 (Cat's chew toy)

If you need a download-mode jig ASAP, you're welcome to borrow mine!  Works with SGS I/II/III.  I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

My sister in law just got one of these via Vodafone.

She was a little surprized that all she got in the box was a plug pack. No Kies CD or user book..

Is this normal as my wife's SGS1 from Telecom came with the lot..??

Yep, that's normal. No CD needed - if you want to install Kies you can download it from here: http://www.samsung.com/nz/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_ia_cd=1903&prd_mdl_cd=GT-I9100LKAVNZ&prd_mdl_name=GT-I9100%2FM16&srchword=Galaxy+S+II# and click on the "Software" tab.

Likewise, the manual can be downloaded here: http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=UNI_NZ&CttFileID=3989016&CDCttType=UM&ModelType=N&ModelName=GT-I9100/M16&VPath=UM/201106/20110620164930378/GT-I9100_UM_EU_Eng_Rev.1.4_110615_Screen.pdf

Kies is yuck - you don't really need to use it at all, assuming your sister in law has all her contacts in Gmail. I think the only reason that Kies is needed is to update the firmware, assuming you stick with the standard firmware.

Hang on, in my box was the charger, USB to micro USB cable, 25 page quick start guide and warranty card. I think that was it.

Likewise mine came with the above but was from Parallel importer. I agree also the Keis is rubbish, I am a bit of a noob on android but didn't take long to flash my phone to get rid of bloatware and Keis. Majority of users most likely won't root or flash their phones so maybe Keis is useful for just upgrading but still don't see point

I got mine from Electron-World.

Kies nearly killed my Windows 7. It also made it VERY difficult to uninstall. I hate Kies.

You can check for firmware updates OTA though, so you may never need to install the software.

Or you can always flash to another ROM, which I still haven't done yet. I was going to wait for the official 2.3.4 before giving it a go.

Speaking of ROMs, 2.3.6 was released to the Nexus S a few days ago.

I bought my Galaxy SL from Electron World.
Came in box with charger, USB cable, warranty card, and a booklet in Polish!

I think the firmware etc was Hong Kong.
Had no problems with Kies on my Windows 7 Pro. Handled SYNC functions OK.
Have since rooted and flashed to XXKPH Stock ROM from Samfirmware.
Now use a combination of Kies, MyPhone Explorer, and DropBox to keep stuff in line.

I got mine from a "drop shop" supplier - Electron-World. They imported it from Hong Kong.

Only cost me $850 NZ all up (including shipping), which was a darn sight cheaper than buying from a NZ retailer for $1200! I see they have dropped in price a bit now and Dick Smith has them for $999.

Welcome! Did you decide to get one to go with the Sensation? One for each eye perhaps? Wink

I currently have:

HTC Sensation
Samsung Galaxy S II
LG Optimus 3D

I have to say it's a very close race. Each phone has its strong points.  I'd be over the Moon with any of them.

As my current obsession is 3D, the LG seems to be winning. *Interestingly*.....despite being dual-core 1GHz I don't notice any real speed difference on the LG with respect to the other 1.2GHz phones.

The LG claims to use "Tri-dual" technology -> "Dual-core, Dual-channel, Dual-memory" says the box.

Whatever it is, the phone is nice and fast. There's a lesson here for me: Don't let the raw numbers fool you. Implementation counts for a lot, too.

But seriously....if you bought any of these three phones (3D aside) you'd have no reason to be unhappy.

If you're not curious, your brain is already dying...if not dead.

FAQ update:

I have had to restrict editing access to the FAQ as someone saw fit to make spurious copies of it (a Zak ???) and someone (maybe the same one) decided to vandalize it with random numbers thrown in.

If anyone has ideas and comments it may be best to post them here or PM me with them.

Thanks.

(I will work on the faq again soon, been busy).

I got mine from Gadgets online but picked it up from thier shop in Dominion road as they stock them. Cast $860 but see they have dropped in price. Not sure country of origin but assume HK as it had a lot of Chinese language options for keyboard etc but first flash to darkyrom sorted that out :)

That's a shame that someone wanted to stuff things up for us. You can actually limit access and only provide access to those you approve. I still haven't got around to adding much - I made a few minor tweaks a month or so ago. Perhaps you could do that?

I was going to add a few apps, but they weren't 'SGS II specific" - rather, just some good apps for Android.

If you set up limited access, can I PM you for access?

That's a good idea, I have set it up so anyone can view it, but only approved people can edit it.

If you want to be an approved person, please PM me with you GMAIL address and I'll set it up.

And it doesn't matter if they are sgs II specific apps or not - great apps are great.

I'd like it to be a community project, so add in quality information and edit the revision section with what you did (so i can find it quickly), it'll be great.

Same goes for everyone here lol.
