nofam:
Barrabas: Can someone PLEASE tell me how to sync this SGS2 to my PC for mass storage without bloody Samsung Kies (POS) connecting automatically???

I've checked Kies and it isnt set to auto sync.

Unplug your phone from the PC first, and then turn on USB Debugging under Settings->Applications->Development.

Then when you plug it back in (assuming all drivers are installed), you get an option in your notification bar to connect.

You can stop Kies from coming up automatically. Inside Kies go to Tools > Preferences, and uncheck the box for Run Samsung Kies automatically when a device is connected.

I do this, and I get my phone show up as a separate entry in Explorer, below the normal drive letters. You can copy files to/from the phone's built-in SD card quite easily. I haven't tried an external SD card to see how it shows up.

There's also an item hidden under Settings > Wireless and network > USB utilities > Connect storage to PC. You can only do this once you've connected the phone to a USB cable, and it doesn't stick, so it's not as convenient. But it's good if you only use mass storage mode once in a while.

Barrabas: Starting to think shoulda bought an iphone...

The iPhone is probably worse than any Android phone. To put music or videos onto an iPhone, you pretty much need to use iTunes. And it's supposedly a real headache to get things set up so you can sync with iTunes on more than 1 PC. At least with Android everything is just a file in the file system, and it's easy to get bits on and off the phone.

My bad...

Forgot about the USB debugging (thanks nofam)

The only fly in the ointment is the sound of the thing. Everything else is better than the SGS but the SQ is crud by comparison. Listening to a fave Ray LaMontagne on the new phone at the moment and kinda wanna kill myself..

Sounds flat as a flattened turd :(

Or use cubed (3) - it takes advantage of the graphic eq API in Gingerbread and lets you tweak the soundscape a bit. . . .every little bit helps!

I just bought a galaxy s2 Smile. Can anyone recommend any websites with recommended enhancements/mods? I don't want to install any custom roms (yet). I tried googling for some sites but there are just so many, I figured some of you guys would already have found good sites!

Sorry to say there's not a lot of enhancements/mods that don't (at the very least) require rooting your phone - this invalidates your warranty, but really unlocks the full potential of the phone.

The Android Market rating system is pretty good, and if you sign up to Appbrain, you can see other user's apps.

Righto then!  Best way to go about rooting it is to flash a custom kernel; this touches nothing in the ROM, but instantly enhances battery life and performance, and gives you a bunch of behind-the-scenes enhancements. . . one of which is root/Super User access.

This opens up a whole lot of scope for accessing/changing bits of your phone, so the first essential purchase is Titanium Backup - this backs up your apps as the name implies, but crucially, lets you force-uninstall and freeze system applications that slow your phone down and chew battery.

I realise you'll have formatted this as FAT32, but do you know if your ROM is customised in any way to support above 32GB cards?  My SGS2 is still running stock firmware and they'll be a whole stack of derivatives out there of course.

Anyone else using the CM7 61 Nightly Build?

Just tested out 1.6ghz stable and hit 5125 on Quadrant, running very smooth and not even getting that hot
