joker97: i have switched so many times back and forth between stock 2.3.3 and cognition 1.42 and 1.50 ... just to try things out. i found stock to be supremely laggy and inferior touch screen and hopeless battery.

I am now on 2.3.5 official release and really like it

Where did get it from John, samfirmware?

Just plugged my phone into the work laptop and KIES popped up and said firmware update for your handset

Has anyone else got the 2.3.5 upgrade via KIES like johnr

Mine does not show that an upgrade is available.

Regards,

John.

Don't hold your breath for an official nz vodafone one - its a shame, as 2.3.5 is really good.

I got the update to 2.3.5 on Friday or Saturday - I plugged in the phone into my PC and the Kies software downloaded 2.3.5. Definitely noticing an improvement in battery life.

I had got an upgrade a few days earlier to the 2.3.5 where I had an upgrade via Kies but remained on 2.3.3

Mine is a parallel imported european one and just got the update to 2.3.4 a few days ago.

Is yours a GT-I9100 model or one of the ones with the other chips in it?

Mine also came from infotech and was in French. I changed the firmware to the official NZ vodafone 2.3.3 fromhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928

and the kernal from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

I find it runs very nicely on 2.3.3 but will upgrade to 2.3.5 when I find a suitable rom. I prefer to stay with a non custom rom.

Regards,
John.

Too scared to plug mine into Kies i have mucked around with it way too much.
It originated from Spain by the looks of the default language.

I'm running 2.3.5 XXKI3 Leomar75's rom/SiyahKernel v1.8/SmartassV2.

Battery life seems to have improved by about 25% without changing anything else. It looks to be getting drain of about <2%/Hr overnight and about 3%/Hr standby during the day.

These figures might not look so good but i am still using all the features of the phone auto sync/update/3G/push email/skype etc

On Quadrant it benchmarks about 10% higher too on 2.3.5 vs 2.3.4

2.3.5 definitely feels like it runs better imho

Hi, guys. It's taken me about 2 weeks but I finally read through this whole thread. I was very lucky to be given a telecom-branded S2 by a friend who signed up for a Telecom contract but thought that I'd appreciate the phone more than she would (and she's right, I LOVE it)

Currently I don't really have a desire to root or flash my phone, but I do have a couple of questions.

By reading this thread I have come to understand that it's the distributor of the phone (in my case, Telecom) who decides whether users will be able to update their operating system - is that right? Why is that? Are some distributors better than others at providing these updates? Is it possible telecom might just say "no updates, customers can make do with 2.3.3" ? And does the fact that I'm now using a 2degrees sim affect this?

I notice when I plug my phone into Kies there is a message that "this firmware version cannot be updated". Why is that? Also, on the phone when I use "settings -> phone info -> Software update - check for update" I am given the bizarre message "samsung account already added in account manager". Selecting "resume update" gives the message "no update available".

Is it possible to remove Telecom branding, such as removing the "Your Telecom" app and renaming the browser to something non-ridiculous?

Many people have mentioned that social hub is a battery drainer. I'm currently getting 1 day of heavy use, or 2 days light use, but if it'spossible to get more juice I'm more than happy not to use it. Is it possible to go back, or am I stuck with it now that I've started using it?

Some have mentioned that the latest versions of the OS have an improved version of swype - something I'm quite keen to check out. Is it possible to upgrade Swype? The official website doesn't seem to let you.

Thanks to those who can answer my questions and to those who have provided very valuable information in this thread. Now that I've got through all 130 pages, next step for me is to check out Brendon's FAQ.
