I have a standard Telecom-issued Galaxy S2, but I've taken out the sim card and put in one from 2 degrees. I'm just wondering what happens when Telecom released a new version of Android. Will I still be able to get it or will I have to use a Telecom sim card to update it?

jcddcjjcd: Here is a note I made for myself after noticing GPS was not a quick as it should be when using roms from other regions.

Changes to enable much faster gps data lookup for our region.
The gps.conf file needs to look like this for NZ.

NTP_SERVER=nz.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276

Only the first line will usually look different so make it like above.

Using Root Explorer:
Browse to /system/etc/, push Mount R/W button, then long press gps.conf and select Open in Text Editor.
Edit the file as mentioned shown above, then save, press Mount R/O button, exit Root Explorer and reboot phone.

There is an app call Fast Fix which basically does just this.

Regards,
John.

Thanks John, very handy.

It shouldn't make a difference. My Fiancee has a Telecom HTC Sensation with a 2Degrees sim and it updated to the latest firmware over-the-air just fine.

No major issues so far. Been trying out different kernels and modems. Now using Speedmod K2-2 kernel and KG3 modem. I also found the Roboto font from the Galaxy Nexus. It looks super sweet on the SGS2.

Nice - any chance of a link to the font? Cool

Batista is on the list to try out. As is Dlev, villainrom and darkys. Hopefully have time today to make some headway with it.

Perka's Stash (free app on Android Market) has it in a CWM file and I've already got it running on my phone.  Here's the link:  Select Samsung | Fonts | ICS | ICS_Fonts-CWM3.zip  Or download his little app and grab it that way.

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to link me to a website/guide/anything that would explain to me what is involved in developing a custom ROM for a SGS2. I know there are plenty of great roms out there already but this is something I just want to work on as a side project/hobby. Thanks for your help.

swisshardy: Hi Guys

Does anyone have a usb jig for sgs2 in Wellington that i can borrow for a day or two? Want to remove the rom count on the phone. Would appreciate if any one can help? Also since i have never used the usb jig, does anyone know how to use it to remove the rom count?

On a separate note, i bought my sgs2  from expert infotech and it came it KH1 kernel which i suppose is from Europe and i installed KI3 on it but was wondering if it would be better to install a NZ kernel. Does anyone know how and from where to get a stock kernel for NZ??

Appreciate the help.

I have a jig I can get down to you if there isn't anyone close just let me know.

Not an expert but not sure kernal will make any differance, possibly the modem (firmware ) may depending on your carrier. I'm XT running KI3 modem and have had no issues but keenly watching others experiences on here.

Hi Swiss,

I live in Wellington and have a USB Jig if you still need to borrow one.

It's pretty straightforward. You just turn your phone off, plug in the Jig and then your phone will go into download mode itself, resetting the binary counter. Then you just turn your phone off and remove the Jig and there you go. Binary counter will be zero :).

Hey Swiss,

If you work around town, I can meet you and give it to you or post it out. Whatever's easiest for you.
