jcddcjjcd: Here is a note I made for myself after noticing GPS was not a quick as it should be when using roms from other regions.

Changes to enable much faster gps data lookup for our region.
The gps.conf file needs to look like this for NZ.

NTP_SERVER=nz.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276

Only the first line will usually look different so make it like above.

Using Root Explorer:
Browse to /system/etc/, push Mount R/W button, then long press gps.conf and select Open in Text Editor.
Edit the file as mentioned shown above, then save, press Mount R/O button, exit Root Explorer and reboot phone.

There is an app call Fast Fix which basically does just this.

Regards,
John.

Thanks John your settings work perfectly fine. The fasterfix app does only allow to select the contient(asai in my case) and not the country. By changing the settings on the gps.config file, i was able to change it to nz.pool.ntp.org. Will test how it fares today.

Checked my gps setting and it was pointing towards Europe, not surprisingly it was rather slow.
I changed it to Oceania with fasterfix, i spend equal time in AU and NZ.

Perka's Stash (free app on Android Market) has it in a CWM file and I've already got it running on my phone.  Here's the link:  Select Samsung | Fonts | ICS | ICS_Fonts-CWM3.zip  Or download his little app and grab it that way.

Hi Neets, I am sure I did something really stupid here!

Downloaded the app from Market, downloaded the ICS Font, reboot into CWM and install zip from SD card. Done successfuly and rebooted the phone, no change!!!

At first I didn't think there had been a change either.  And you can't tell becuase it's now the default, it's not like you'll see the font name listed to pick and choose between under display.

Are you sure you've looked at something to see?  Try tying a text message and see if you can tell the difference.  It wasn't until I typed a tweet that I could see it had indeed changed.  Up until then I thought it had been a botched "flash".

An alternative way would be to install Font Installer from the market (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.font.installer) which gives you access to around 190 fonts to install.

It requires root and includes the new ICS font as well.

Fun playing with all the fonts, not just the ICS one :)

Hi All

I am running CM7 nightlies and my baseband version is XXKG1 and Android version is 2.3.7. The radio on KG1 sucks as even with setting GPS to NZ pool, i still get crap signal. Does anyone know if i can update the baseband to XXKI3(just the radio) and how to do that? Doing that will i have to resintall the rom again?

Does anyone know how to change the default country setting?  Mine is from Europe, which means the Samsung upgrades wait for the particular European Countries firmware version, which is slower than the NZ / Australasian versions, as well as having a number of unhelpful defaults such as the browser default page, not to mention the language needs to be changed to English!

Would the jig be needed to do this?

No, the jig won't help.  There's a dialer code you can enter that lets you select a CSC, but it requires a factory reset (wipes all apps/data).

And I'd be really surprised if whatever country its set to is slower that either Vodafone or Telecom for releases??

If you need a download-mode jig ASAP, you're welcome to borrow mine!  Works with SGS I/II/III.  I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

I believe NZ/Australasian versions are slower compared to EU countries. I had to flash the latest firmware onto my phone when I got my phone as in NZ they only have XWKE7 as the latest which is 2.3.3 while European countries were getting 2.3.4.

Here's something I posted back on page 135...

nzgeek: There are two different threads on XDA that contain download links for different modem versions. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for on one of them.

The second link contains CWM-flashable modem packages. These only update the modem, not the kernel or rom, so they're fairly safe to use. I've used them myself, so can confirm that they work.

I was running batista with 2.3.4/KG3 (I think) and i got no end of complaints of echoey and missed calls, I'm now on Leomars Evolution 2.7.1 with rom kitchen app which allows you to easily change modems on the fly. I was on KI3 modem which was a vast improvement on KG3 but still not perfect, i have now switched back to KE7 and no complaints at all
