re. wifi speeds, looks like there is quite a difference between apps to eg. Ghost Commander with SMB plugin I was getting around 1.1mb/s, with AndSMB I am getting around 1.5 mb/s.

Since KE7 I have noticed Wi-Fi sharing is now eating the majority of my battery. I do not have Wi-Fi enabled, and I have disabled Wi-Fi location sharing in the privacy menu.

It's sitting at 31% used, equal with Android OS, with display only 20%.

This is not good! Finally had my battery going sweet then this pops up. Any help would be appreciated :)

SMB always tends to be slow as it has massive CPU overheads. If you run SeePU you'll probably see the CPU pegged at 100% - that's if it runs multithreaded (would it?).

If you can run an FTP host on the PC then it'd be much quicker.

Some good advice there again mate thank you, getting 2.7 mb/s on ftp :) So in closing, is ftp as fast a service as I can get over wifi for lan file transfers?

I've found that actual throughput speed tends to be at max around 1/3 of the wifi connection speed, so assuming peak 2.4ghz 802.11n speed of 72mbps, you'd generally expect to get around 3 to 3.5 MB/sec, so 2.7MB/s is ok.

Note: This is very non-scientific, just what I've generally found to be true

Someone really needs to give that guy an award.

This is basically an OpenGL layer that sits between the application and the native OGL interface and can translate commands to do all sorts of things, such as reduce texture quality/resolutions to improve framerates, and obviously "other" things such as this.

There's a short article about it on XDA here, as well as a link to the thread;

thank god for this app.    i'm thinking if sammy do start pushing a tegra2 SGS2 ..then games support for the maili might not come ...

FYI getting 3.5 MB/sec stable over FTP at home tonight, very happy.

ok bad news re the sena case ... hope no one else here actually put an order in, if yr about too ..cancel it.

the pouch is really nice, super slim ...but ...too tight fitting.   basically the phone keeps restarting the moment you put it inside.

with the power button now on the side ..and the fact a long hold of that button results in a restart, even with a screen lock in place ....  ouch.   battery would be dead in a couple hours no doubt.

is there a way to maybe change that long press behavior of the phone?   either way though i don't like the idea of the button being constantly pressed ...

Mmmm, mine arrived yesterday but I don't yet have the phone.  I was able to get my SGS in there without it being a squeeze so I'm a bit confused about how a slimmer phone ends up having a problem.  Still I could keep the SGS in there to help it stretch.

On a diff note, my phone was sent from Unlocked Mobiles Monday (their time).  It's coming by UPS.  It's currently in Singapore but UPS phoned today and left a voice message, then a test message with a choice of 5 phone numbers to call, along with the reference number.  GST (and I presume Customs duty) was $207.  I'm not up in arms about it. I fully expected the phone would be stopped but very pleased they've contacted for payment before the phone is even in the country.  This way when it arrives tomorrow (presumably Auckland) there'll be no hold up in sending it on it's way to Christchurch.  Looking foward to getting it on Friday and spending the weekend oohing and ahhing and setting it up.

Glad you've had a positive experience Neets.

I will never ever order anything from Mobicity again.

Inconsistant service from their live chat reps, poor updates on order status and confusing update emails.
