Can anyone tell me if its a good idea to reformat the SD card from my previous phone or is it not necessary?

You probably don't even need to fully charge it. Lithium ion batteries don't have the same limitations as older technologies, and are fine to use with partial charging/discharging.

The only reason you'd want to do a full discharge/charge cycle these days is to properly calibrate the battery, so you can get an accurate reading of how full it is. But it's possible to get a fairly accurate reading with partial charges, so even this isn't necessary.

I fully charged mine, it was already at 70% when I got it, so yeah, let it charge then sit on the charger for an extra hour to make sure.

So far have loaded on about 20 apps including an LED flashlight one(the light is bright). has no slow down at all. Even with games/apps running in the background. I've tried loading up all the apps and it seems to be sweet!

GPS seems pretty close, i'm indoors but it's about 10-20 meters off. Will try it on the drive home in a few minutes and see how good it tracks.

Battery hasn't slipped too much, is at about 80% after 4 hours off the charger with heavy useage(screen says it's been used for 1 hour 2 minutes...whoops)

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Try this: bring up YouTube in the browser and find a HD video (1080p if possible). Start it playing, then zoom in and out and scroll the page. There is not one skipped frame in the video. Damn impressive.

(If you know someone who has an iPhone, show your SGS2 doing this, then ask them to do the same thing. The reaction should be noteworthy!)

I actually haven't owned too many phones. My previous one is a N80, and is about 5 years old. However I do work in a tech company, and many of my workmates have smartphones, so I have access to plenty of options to take a look.

So far today, I've had several workmates come by my desk, and all have been impressed with the SGS2. They just can't get over how slim and light it is. One guy had looked at the SGS2, but thought that it would be too light and fragile compared to his Desire HD. He's now thinking his wife might get his phone, and he might upgrade...

But comparing this phone to all of those others... there really is no competition. I haven't managed to get the opinion of an iPhone 4 owner yet, and most of them have already headed out for the day, but I'll try and get a reaction tomorrow.

Wow, the boot up time on this is phenomenal. And i'm glad too as i've had it reboot a couple of times whilst moving files around the external SD card through windows :(

FYI Kies sucks balls. I can't think of why i'd want to use it yet.

Can someone tell me the easiest way for me to get it to connect to the PC and let me browse the files? It seems to only randomly do a media scan and then connect. I'm not sure if i'm missing something here or not but on my N1 I just told it to connect after plugging in the USB and I was away and laughing.

I managed to corner one of my iPhone 4-owning workmates and got her reaction. She says that if she was to buy a new phone, it'd be the SGS2 or something like it. Despite the fact that it's bigger than the iPhone, it's quite a lot lighter and therefore felt easier to carry. It's also thinner than the iPhone + rubber bumper case.

Interestingly enough, she thought that the SGS2's screen looked sharper than the iPhone, even though it was lower resolution on a larger area. Comparing Angry Birds on both, there was no competition on colour - SGS2 was the clear winner.

So there we have it folks. This phone is a verified iPhone killer!

OK so it turns out that the GS2 has corrupted my 16GB microSD. It stopped reading it and when I try it in the PC it isn't visible, and then it gives me CRC errors when I try and format it. Prick.

So moral of the story is, don't go moving lots of files around on your external SD card whilst mounted in the GS2 and being viewed through Windows. There goes $150 I could have spent elsewhere :(

In other news my screen is dead pixel free which made me happy.

The only reason to have Kies installed is so you have the neccessary files to flash stuff to your phone with Odin. I'm currently upgrading Kies so I can Root my SGSII.

I think I read somewhere that Samsung are going to release a couple of different versions? One with Super AMOLED Plus, another with just Super AMOLED due to supply shortage... and the one with Super AMOLED will have 1GB Internal Storage instead of 8GB... is this correct? Does this phone have NFC?

Oh, and also, does it have any stupid carrier pre-installed stuff when bought off Clove? My friend bought Incredible S from www.eking.co.nz and when it arrived it had heaps of asian pre-installed stuff with it.... Clove the same?
