snowsteve: Hi There,

I currently have an ageing galaxy i9000 which im looking at upgrading.

One big question i have is, Does the galaxy S2 have any of the lagging issues that the I9000 has ?
That is my main gripe with the i9000 (that and i want more speed)

Would appreciate any feedback you Galaxy s2 owners have.

Cheers

My feedback would be, wait till tomorrow.  There should be some announcements coming out from Samsung, hopefully about the future of the Galaxy S2 and 3. Might be a high res variant this year?

Has none of the lagging issues at all.   I have both too.  The i9000 even with the lag fix, is slower at changing screens than the GS2

I will probably still look at the Galaxy S2 due to the fact thats its been out for a while (so no major bugs) plus i am able to get a good price for these through a supplier.

As you will know from having the i9000 is how much time is spend getting a good up to date lag fix to find that its still not great ~ but from what i have heard the S2 really doessnt seem to have the same issue.

Cheers

never heard of such a model. looks like galaxy nexus specs mixed with S2 visual.?

All of the USA variants are 800 x 400. BS maybe? Or has someone got the specs messed up??

It's a real phone but only sold in certain markets and called the Skyrocket HD in the US. It doesn't use Samsung's Exynos SoC as it doesn't support LTE.

There's a world of difference between the SGS and the SGS2. My wife has a 16GB SGS, which I've installed a lagfix kernel on, and it's noticeably slower than my SGS2 when doing pretty much everything. I don't have any real lag at all.

The only possible reason for waiting is that the SGS3 is expected to be released fairly soon. That might help to drive the price down slightly. However, there's no set date for when the SGS3 will be released, and given that the SGS2 can be bought for around $700 at the moment you're not likely to see much price movement for several months.

Does anyone know what "Sync Internet" is under your Google account in Accounts and Sync?

It doesn't seem to sync at all, using ICS

I would avoid using Google Chrome on the mobile - especially if you want the sync features. I've read many horror stories on how people bookmarks got deleted permanently from the servers. Personally I've faced complete system instabilities while using Chrome. I will wait till it becomes more stable. Anyways, I don't see any reason to use it. The stock browser is fast enough, and so is Opera Mobile and Opera Mini.. between the three of them all my browsing needs are covered. :)

Firefox users: It's called Fx, not FF! [Read FAQ#8]

I recommend:

Web Browser: Opera. Ad Filter: Ad Muncher. Portable OS: Puppy Linux. IM: Digsby. AntiVirus: Microsoft Security Essentials. Automation: AutoHotkey. Rescue CD:  Parted Magic

How many of you are using the EURO released version of ICS or a Custom ROM based on it? How are you finding it, and do you think the March 19th world wide release will be much different? It's pretty close now, is it worth waiting for the ROMs based on that?

Personally, I'd wait. It's not far away anyway.
I'm running Litening v2.1 (LPQ) at the moment and (for me) it's perfectly stable, no bugs. The LP7 release a couple of days later had more bug fixes and I'd expect the next one to be improved further. Do you remember what it was like last May/June? New builds released every few days...

Edit:
Google Chrome is perfectly stable for me. Nice to have it working properly. As far as bookmarks go, I always keep an HTML back-up on my computer. No biggie if the wheels fall off and they get wiped.

I flashed DXLP7 stock rom first using Mobile Odin and then Odin on my PC. Seems to be stuck on the S symbol while booting... unless it's supposed to take 10+ minutes and I'm just being impatient..

I won't trust litening again until he explains his absence, it's just courtesy when you have such a following and people are donating!

I'll wait, with a 4 day old daughter coming home tomorrow it's probably gonna be a bit before I get a chance is all.

I'm only using it while waiting for the next Omega or DarkyRom version to release. I've had a try of most current roms so figured I'd try his again.
LitePro distributed apps without permission (betterbatterystats - lots of bad blood over that, that's when he left) and his Litening Tool was also apparently ripped off from someone else too (again without permission but that seemed to go away). Some members that hadn't been there from the start defended him pretty strongly but he never apologised to anybody for the apps or for his absence. You're 100% right - that's not the way to treat followers or donators. He just ran away for 6 months without explanation. He won't even respond to a query from an SGS user on his own forum. Not flash.

You could try DarkyRom, Omega, Ressurection or Wannam's roms. They're all pretty good, bound to be others too. They're all pretty similar, but some use more AOSP apps than others.
I'm being pretty shallow at the moment, basing my choices at the moment off themes as I can't stand what Samsung did with the colours...

K1000716: Thanks that clarifies things. Based on that I won't touch another of his ROM's it's not like he is the only one. I want CheckROM to make his ICS, I really like CheckROM it's the best I have had on GB I can even get about 2 days from a battery which is unheard of for me previously.

Can anyone with the I9100T that has flashed ICS tell me which modem they are using for best performance on Telecom?
